Potting media for Ludisia discolor
 

About 2 years ago I received a Ludisia discolor as a reward for joining my local OS, the plant has since grown a lot (apparently they do not grow as slowly as I was told) and it is now mostly out of the pot (there is even a growth coming from a drain hole). I am planning to repot as soon as possible but I'm not sure what to pot it in. I am hoping to leave the plant mostly whole and grow it into a large specimen plant (probably in a large shallow pot of some kind). It is currently potted in some sort of soil-based mix with a good amount of perlite and tiny pieces of bark, but I don't really have any matching mix. I have bonsai soil mix (pictures of mix and ingredients list included), sphagnum moss, and orchiata bark (power and power+ sizes). would any of these work for it or is there something else I should use? P.S. sorry for the bad photos, I was not feeling inclined to try very hard to get them :rofl: if you want a better pic just ask!

Mine grows in potting soil (I think I used azalea mix with some extra sand and fine perlite) I'd think that the bonsai mix would work better than bark, since this is definitely a terrestrial. (If you can get your hands on some peat to add to the bonsai mix, I think that the extra organic matter would be beneficial) Sphagnum would work too, but for a large plant, I'd go for something closer to dirt. Bulb pans have a good depth-to-diameter ratio for ramblers like these.

In a dish-garden type pot, I use inert drainage material in the lowest 1/4 of the depth, the next 1/4 medium or coarse orchid bark, the top 1/2 an organic potting soil (like an African violet mix) with some perlite or coarse sand added. You can probably skip the perlite/sand if you don't have it and don't feel like buying.
