nature is amazing OR stay offa my spike you lousy bugs!!!
I have a few mounts that are in this massive ficus break on one boundary of my yard....this tree line is home to a LOT of wild life and the Orchids are in their space so I generally wont interfere and let things take their natural course.
I was checking on the plants as i was watering and i saw this little spike. I got excited about the possibility of some new flowers and i took a closer look and see that something has eaten out the interior of the spike!!! even crazier, it seems to still be developing and growing in spite of having a major hole in it i am sure it will fail and blast soon but i thought i would share because it is pretty cool looking https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...96c440f_4k.jpgHoooooous by J Solo, on Flickr |
so this orchid is BAD ASS
the spike that the bug got to is still growing...somehow impossibly and there are two older dormant spikes that have projected new spikes and a BEEFY new spike from the stem. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d228490_4k.jpgOutdoor by J Solo, on Flickr here is a shot of the whole mount- the big phal has been there for a few years, last year i added two minis and that dead stick of dendro cane ( haha there is no such thing as a dead stick of dendo cane if you treat it with love!) and it of course started growing https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ee13acf_4k.jpgOutdoor by J Solo, on Flickr the ravaged spike....still growing https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...dc63745_4k.jpgOutdoor by J Solo, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f4e6eb1_4k.jpgStuff at night by J Solo, on Flickr one more to see the big new spike in the back ground https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...57cec14_4k.jpgStuff at night by J Solo, on Flickr |
