unusual mounts
I know we all see the driftwood (grape wood, root stock) mounts and then of course the tree fern plaques and totems and cedar slats....
I have always had a fascination for the ODD mounts and thought I would ask you guys to share your weird or unusual mounts. This is one of my favorites, this NoId Catt was actually in this pot at one point but over the years he moved to the side and i decided to let him call the shots https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...5f8254b_4k.jpgBrassa bloom by J Solo, on Flickr |

Ive been hoping someone would have added to this post already. My mount is also on pottery but started as an inverted pot until the dendrobium became too big. Attaching it to the board became the only way for the plant to continue as a mount. Its been mounted for 5-6 years and last year I mounted the smaller den on a saucer

Funny enough I was looking through stuff on here today and saw a post where they were using suet block cages for mounting orchids and I couldn't believe how great an idea that seemed.

Several years agonI was working at a nursery and we had a couple of large cinnamon ferns that were winter killed. When I cleared out the pots I found large pieces of osmunda which I mounted some plants on.

For quite some time I had Tolumnia mounted on the rack of a European style deer mount, and a couple of orchids (can't remember what now) mounted on the skull itself. It was quite the conversation piece. It was very cumbersome to move in/out of the house and got kind of gnawed up over time by squirrels during its outside time, and I moved on.
Alas, no pictures. It was before I learned how vital it was to back up pictures in more than one location. |
that sounds so cool!!! i wish i could do that but any bone, antler or horn in my house is quickly found and consumed by my canine room-mates

I have four large dogs.
For the deer head, do as we say here in the cowboy Midwest... Hang ‘em high! |
Haha my biggest is over 100 lbs and on his hind legs can touch the top of a door frame.....
I don’t have high enough ceilings lol |

---------- Post added at 09:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:15 AM ---------- Uh-oh. Going off topic again. It's getting to be a bad habit now. And it does appear to be all DCoconuts' fault. Ahem. Now throwing out a quick picture of Tolumnia mounted on wine cork in wine bottles. Does this count? http://www.orchidboard.com/community...cture12513.jpg |
