Repotting Root Cleanup - Break in root
Quick question. When repotting, it is clear that hollow or squishy roots should be removed. What about if a root looks healthy except for a break in the middle where the inner core is exposed and is the only thing connecting two healthy looking sections of a root? Will this kind of root be functional? Will it inevitably rot? Thanks!

I am suspecting that you're referring to a Phalaenopsis. A break in the velamin - the spongy material on the outside of the root - does not harm the root. The inner core is the part that does the work. The velamin just facilitates water retention. So that root with the broken velamin is still a good one. Leave it.

Much appreciated Roberta!
