New to zygopetalum, so many questions!
 

I recently purchased my first zygopetalum, it is in spike with buds about to bloom. The roots of this zygo are very healthy, but have begun to overgrow the pot I bought it in. They are literally overflowing from it. Is it a good idea to re-pot this, or would it be better to wait until the flowers are gone?

I have decided to place it by a South facing window, with a sheer curtain, but I am starting to worry about it recurving too much sunlight. The leaves have tiny brown spots, but they haven't increased since I put it there. The sheath under the blooms have began to brown. My worry is that the exposed roots may be drying too quickly.
Does anyone have any words of advice or anything that could help me? I really love this plant and I want to make sure I can keep it as healthy and happy as possible.

You can wait until the flowers are done before repotting. I also would not worry about the exposed roots drying out too much.... with that much root mass, the bottom of the pot is probably staying quite wet. Once it has bloomed, you can/should repot it (ideally when you see new growth start)

Having recently repotted my Zygopetalum that were in similar shape, your pot is probably full of nothing but roots. Get a bigger pot and your preferred media and repot once it’s done blooming.

If roots do completely fill the old pot, don’t try to dig out the old media, you’ll traumatize the plant: just plop the whole thing into the new pot with some media in the bottom and around the sides. You could probably even get away with this while it’s blooming.

Some degree of spotting on the leaves seems to be inevitable. Mine all have it but they still grow and bloom fine.

Mine needed quite a bit of watering to keep them hydrated while they were totally root bound. I was watering them 3-4+ times a week depending on temperature. You should be able to check moisture level by looking at the bottom of the pot.
