MY ARTIFICIAL ORCHID TREE
Hi all,
I saw a tread of someone a few days ago asking how to make an artificial orchid tree. Unfortunately I can't find it anymore. However here's a link to some pages of the artificial tree I made just a few days ago (still more orchids must be added, keep you posted). MY ORCHID TREE Also here's a temporary link to the orchid tree of the AOS My Homepage |
Awesome! Thanks for the info! I've always wanted to do one of these...but now I'm running out of room! :hmm
Have you ever been to the AOS to see that tree personally? I was there last year...the "tree" and greenhouse is wonderful  ***By the way, your web site is lovely  Very beautiful :) |

Hi All,
I've never seen The AOS orchid tree in person, the pic was one of those they had on their site. Living in Belgium, Europe is just a little too much water to cross for a short visit. The orchid tree is not finnished yet. I'm waiting for some more orchids to stop flowering so they can be transplanted on the tree. One of them is Dendrobium unicum, a wonderfull miniature with special, orange flowers and a nice fragranse. Will keep updating the pictures on my site. Although my site is in Dutch, I'm working on an English version too but is a lot of work and hope to get the orchid section online this summer. My next project will be a little smaler but quite interesting too I think. It'll be a wall peace, constructed out of a large peace of dritwood, where my Ph. violacea and belina's will go grow on. Think I'll call it the "Sweat fragrance root" or something like it. these plants are still young and started collecting them recently, as I was searching for them for a long time now. I'm sure It will become a beautifull, fragrant and colorfull display in the future. But be patient, it will be finished in a few weeks. |
I can't believe my eyes. It is fantastic. You are very clever and artistic to create something like that.

wow. im always looking for a new project! thanks for the inspiration. now if i can only make mine look as nice!

Your tree is looking great! I am looking forward to seeing the finished product...but something like that is never quite "finished" is it? Your wall project sounds very interesting too! This should be exciting (/udb) Please keep us updated :cheer: |
Well Grandma M & cowboy51278 It is not a question of being artistic or clever. I've been working with terrariums and palludariums for over 20 years now and as time goes by you'll find a solution for many problems. Also before starting a new project I do A LOT of RESEARCH, in this case mainly browsing the internet and looking for pictures of orchids in their natural habitat and also how people display their plants on exibitions. Tons of pics on the web.
Some tips: - Don't use branches from local trees as they can cary buggs, slugs and other deseases that can infect your precious plants, by corkoak branches, they are not that expensive and if chosen wel you can you can make 2 branches out of one. - Keep it simple for good results. - Corkoak branches and coco-pannels can easyly be bougth at your local pet and reptilian shop or over the internet. The whole thing cost me about 90 US$, not including the orchids and other plants ofcorse. |
Not yet been to the US yet cb977, just did not get around to it yet, was in Asia and Africa a few times.
In Vietnam I visited every orchid grower I could find and saw some very interesting tings. It will be finished in a few weeks. I mean all the wanted orchids will go on to it and that'll be that. The plants need room to develop and hopely flower a lot. Most are young plants. They should give me flowers yearround. When finished I'll put up the list of orchids I used. The new project will be lovely when my favorits are growing on it. Can't wait to start on it. The creation of the orchid tree did not take up much time. - Concreting the base and placing the trunk app. 1/2 hour. -realising the actual tree app. 4 hours. -planting app. 2 hours so far. |
