Zygo ID help please
2 Attachment(s)
Bought this recently from an online seller as a no ID Zygopetalum. It’s wonderfully fragrant. I can’t seem to find an ID despite lots of trawling through google images of Zygo’s! Someone elsewhere suggested it could be a Zygoneria rather than a Zygopetalum...I’m pretty new to the hobby so would love some input :)

There are lots of Zygo and Zygo intergeneric hybrids that look similar. It's going to stay a NOID, which should not detract from its beauty and fragrance. just enjoy!

Thanks Roberta. I have no issues with it being a NOID - I was mostly curious and getting carried away with researching all things orchid, lol :) I love it no matter what - it’s beautiful and smells heavenly.

Looking at photos of some of my plants, I suspect that it is either Z. Artur Elle or one of its progeny - The solid color of the segments with that light picotee around the edges, along with the fragrance, lead in that direction. (A lot of the newer, more complex Zygo hybrids are not as fragrant... sort of like what has been done with roses) Check out http://orchidcentral.org/Images/Zygo...Artur_Elle.jpg or http://orchidcentral.org/Images/Zygo...r%20Murray.jpg for comparison

Thanks so much Roberta! Yes I agree - it looks similar to the Artur Elle, just the shape is a little more ‘open’ I guess...the fragrance is really wonderful, like spring flowers with a hint of vanilla and maybe a little pepper - it’s quite complex. Not really like hyacinths, which is what I had heard Zygo fragrance often compared to (I had hyacinths blooming when I got it for a direct comparison!). More like daffodils maybe but definitely with some ‘spice’ notes. Anyway, thanks very much for your help :)
