Hi there, While roaming a demolition site looking for mounting material I found this! No 1, 2 and 3 were in battered pots with badly decomposed bark and number 4 was attached to an uprooted Avocado tree next to quite a bushy Catt.

Your first one could be a Eulophia species, the last looks like a Tridactyle bicaudata. Of the middle two one looks like a Cyrtorchis arcuata and the other like an Epidendrum. I think that all except the Epidendrum are indigenous South African orchids. I suggest that you contact Hendrik Venter at the Durban Botanical Gardens and if Hendrik cannot confirm the identities he will ask me and we can then see if we can help you. It would be better if they were in flower. Keep well and kind regards Mike |

Not sure what meeting you are talking about (NOS or QOC?) but it would be better to take the plants and show him the plants. It is very difficult to identify plants from photographs especially if they are not in flower. I agree that in the first 3 photos that you posted there were 2 photos of a reed stem Epidendrum and a Cymbidium but in the next four photos that you posted I could not see the pseudobulb of the one and the leaves looked leathery which made me think that it might be a Eulophia (most likely Eulophia speciosa which is often seen on roadside banks around Durban). But of vourse I may be wrong on all 4 of my guesses and that is why it would be better to show Hendrik the plants. Keep well and kind regards Mike |

Thanks Mike, It is the NOS meeting. I am not a member yet, but after that Tuesday I will be. These plants are in such a battered condition that I would be embarrased to take them there. I think I will first give them some TLC and then take them next month. Greetings.
