Dendrobium rhodostictum
I'm building a terrarium with mostly ferns, but wanted to add a few mini African violets, a few phals, etc. I have a Den. rhodostictum that I put in S/H about a year ago. Lost half the plant over the winter, and unpotted to see how it was doing. It's blooming like mad (what's left) but the roots are horrible. Anything else I put to S/H at the same time is recovering very well.
I could just let it go and see if another year improves the root system. OR I could experiment with putting back in bark and putting into the terrarium. Will be mostly a closed system, small fan. Couldn't find this particular species on the "list" of orchids that do well after a search here. Any advice? |
i am no expert but i do remember ray saying in another post to stick with one medium and not switch mediums too often. seeing as some of the plant has been lost, maybe you should leave the plant in s/h... but maybe the orchid's blooming lots because that's what plants do under stress... to be honest i would switch to bark and stick it in the terrarium. according to google, the plant prefers high temps and high humidity, so i think the terrarium should suit its needs just fine.
ps: websites recommend a well draining medium and daily watering, so i think the bark plan is good |
