Phalaenopsis parishii
Phalaenopsis parishii ~ first bloom seedlings
I mounted one of these to hang in a terrarium with high humidity, under bright light. The others are potted in small bark (some with a top-layer/top-dressing of sphagnum) and were placed outside of the terrariums, using ambient light spill coming from those light fixtures. Will try to post some photos when they are in full bloom. https://i.imgur.com/XGiFGNSm.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/KLFOhZ9m.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/HO0p90am.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vsq5fX5m.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/kaJoqbBm.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/YFziNGIm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/AnZHAMx.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/qMusKZ9.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vFi12vpm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uSXvJjrm.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/99Axtbdm.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/UcDfgEFm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/5YV7VrQm.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/6mh2tBjm.jpg |
Lovely mini species. I have the primary hybrid Lovely Kid (parishii x lobbii) and mine takes after parishii with regards to flower color,

Lovely Kid is an interesting name for a hybrid.
Are there any obvious differences in the foliage (compared to the foliage of the two plants used to create this hybrid)? With this particular cross (P. parishii x P. lobbii), the pod parent is 'parishii' and the pollen parent 'lobbii'? Late note: The reason I ask... *usually* with a seed cross not all the "kids" are going to look the same. But, I could be wrong. Also (if I understand this correctly): because a registered hybrid name can only be registered once, any cross with the two parents can be used in any combination but will still retain the name of the registered hybrid (e.g., remaking the cross with the previous pod parent as the pollen parent)? I don't know if the pod parent, or (visa-versa) the pollen parent, influences the hybrid in any way. Any input about this? |
Looks great! I acquired one recently that I will be putting in my Vivarium that is nearly complete.

Thanks!
Good choice (IMO)... has been a hardy species for me, and maintains a fairly small size. Seems to do very well mounted or potted. The P. parishii that I have mounted are inside high humidity enclosures - the ones I have potted are growing in open enclosures with lower humidity. Keep us posted on your experiences. If you get a chance, share some pictures of your Viv when completed. Sorry took so long for me to respond to those Qs. Apparently never got back to looking at additions to that thread. |
