Phalaenopsis parishii ~ first bloom seedlings

I mounted one of these to hang in a terrarium with high humidity, under bright light. The others are potted in small bark (some with a top-layer/top-dressing of sphagnum) and were placed outside of the terrariums, using ambient light spill coming from those light fixtures. Will try to post some photos when they are in full bloom.

Lovely Kid is an interesting name for a hybrid.

Are there any obvious differences in the foliage (compared to the foliage of the two plants used to create this hybrid)?

With this particular cross (P. parishii x P. lobbii), the pod parent is 'parishii' and the pollen parent 'lobbii'?

Late note: The reason I ask... *usually* with a seed cross not all the "kids" are going to look the same. But, I could be wrong.

Also (if I understand this correctly): because a registered hybrid name can only be registered once, any cross with the two parents can be used in any combination but will still retain the name of the registered hybrid (e.g., remaking the cross with the previous pod parent as the pollen parent)?

I don't know if the pod parent, or (visa-versa) the pollen parent, influences the hybrid in any way. Any input about this?

Good choice (IMO)... has been a hardy species for me, and maintains a fairly small size. Seems to do very well mounted or potted. The P. parishii that I have mounted are inside high humidity enclosures - the ones I have potted are growing in open enclosures with lower humidity.

Keep us posted on your experiences. If you get a chance, share some pictures of your Viv when completed.

Quite so. I had been told at the time I obtained mine that with some, the flowers would look like parishii's, with others lobbii's. Mine happens to look just like parishii.

Correct. Just as with crossing two dog breeds ... doesn't matter whether the bitch was a Cocker Spaniel and the father was a poodle or the other way round -- either way the offspring are Cockerdoodles. The only additions would be if I had a particularly nice Lovely Kid with flowers distinctive enough to warrant a clonal name. In which case I could get it registered as Lovely Kid 'Bernice' or whatever would float my boat. At which point, only my plant and clones/divisions thereof would bare the additional appellation I assigned to it.

In some cases, it does seem to make a difference -- particularly with any factors which are connected or influenced by mitochondrial DNA as such genetic material is only passed down via the mother (egg producing thus "pod" parent).

I will definitely share some pics. So far I have completed the background/hardscape and lid. Just waiting for the background to cure a little and then will put the lid on and let the misters/fans run a few days prior to adding my orchids.
