Hi, I am new to the group. And new to orchids. I have had good luck with the Phalaenopsis orchids that I buy cheaply from the supermarket. They bloom and rebloom over and over again.

Some years ago I inherited a cattleya, an oncidium, a dendrobium, some phals, and others from a friend who passed away. I did ok with them but then I moved not long after that, and I gave them away. That short experience was enough to kindle my interest.

I ordered an inexpensive young catt and an oncidium from eBay. I know I will be caring for them for awhile before they bloom. The house I moved to, where I am now has a greenhouse. I never had a greenhouse before.

Welcome to the Orchid Board! Lucky you to have a greenhouse. It opens up a lot of possibilities, plant-wise.

Thank you, Mountaineer. I have a lot to learn!

Welcome COloradCatt! A greenhouse huh? Let us encourage you to fill it! :D

Thank you, Waterwitchin. I am a bit intimidated by the greenhouse. I never grew anything in one before. It’s empty now. No electricity unless I run my heavy duty electrical extension cord to it, which is possible.

I want to try my hand at growing catts. (I am good with reblooming phals from the supermarket ...)But why Catts? When I had that collection of orchids I inherited a number of years ago, though there were quite a few problems with the plants, probably because their owner had been sick for awhile, but anyway, a beautiful yellow and orange small spotted Cattleya came into bloom and stole my heart. I never been the same since. I vowed that one day I would try my hand with them. This is that day.

My concern is humidity... and I am reseaching how to deal with the lack of it.
