Spring fever in overdrive
Being in a part of the country where the only orchids readily available are Phals, I await impatiently for spring and warmer weather so that I can order something easy to care for in the home on a window sill. Something that blooms maybe twice a year and has a fragrance. But spring on a day such as today with the snow outside and the negative wind chills seems very far away.

Hausermann's open house is in it's second weekend. Might be worth your drive.

We're in the middle of a bad cold spell here, too. It kind of looks like most of the middle and eastern portions of the US are suffering, all the way down to Florida. Temps have been 15 to 20 degrees below normal (F). It's supposed to warm up on Saturday.
I've been hitting as many orchid shows as I can. That does help to cheer me up. I missed the Hausermann's open house last weekend, and I don't think I'll be able to go this weekend, either. They are coming to the MOS show here next month, so maybe I'll place an order and have them bring it to the show. That won't be as nice as actually having a chance to see their facility and browse their inventory, though! |
I might go. If it rains. My problem is I'm seriously out of space. I'd love to get a new Zygo but, by the time I pay the tolls to and from and the gas... I could order from Hawaii cheaper. It's not a small deal to drive over there anymore. The tolls and taxes are outrageous.
On the other hand, with 5 acres, I'll soon be wishing for winter again. I'm ordering seeds today and doing taxes. We didn't get our fall cleanup done because of the weather : first the leaves didn't fall. Then when they did, it turned rainy. So, usually we pick up 60 yards, shredded, and that's my mulch. So, no mulch this year? IDK what kinda magic the Chief can work when the weather breaks. |
