East coast weather

I think I speak for many of us: Would you members and friends on the coast weigh in (if possible), and let us know that you are safe, please.

At the risk of offending, my prayers (and others) are with you for your safety.

rbarata 03-02-2018 06:52 PM

Are you talking about that huge low pressure?

Dollythehun 03-02-2018 06:59 PM

Our northeast is having terrible weather a "Bomb Cyclone" storm. Flooding, hurricane winds, flooding, flights cancelled, 2.5 million people with out power... Many of our members live in that area.

rbarata 03-02-2018 07:03 PM

Yes, I can see it in the satellite images.
Forecast "says" it will move away from the coast. In fact it is already moving that way.

Dollythehun 03-02-2018 07:03 PM

Has left much Carnage in it's wake...

rbarata 03-02-2018 07:10 PM

:(Sorry to ear that...weather is getting crazy...now the tendency is to have hurricanes borning in US east coast and travel across the Atlantic and hit our country after is passes by the Açores islands.
In the past it never happened so frequently.

CJ Green 03-02-2018 09:14 PM

Things are OK in my corner of Vermont. High winds and freezing rain, spotty power outages, but otherwise not bad. It looks worse down in eastern Massachusetts and south along the coast.

Dollythehun 03-02-2018 09:28 PM

Glad to hear that!

GoldStar135 03-02-2018 09:50 PM

Power went out here in NJ, and I'm currently running on generator power. Other than that my plants and I are fine :)

Dollythehun 03-02-2018 09:58 PM

Yea!!!! Thanks for checking in.

Mountaineer370 03-02-2018 10:20 PM

My thoughts are with everyone in the affected areas. May you all stay safe!

No-Pro-mwa 03-05-2018 01:34 PM

Hope everyone is fine. We were suppose to get a storm but got nothing much, just wind.

Subrosa 03-05-2018 02:08 PM

Working 16 hour days getting things cleaned up, but other than that everything is fine.

Tindomul 03-05-2018 02:47 PM

Thanks Dolly for checking up on us. I am just now emerging from my figurative hole-in-the-ground to check on things, lol. I can't complain, the first night my daughter and I got smacked around by fierce slail (Sleet and hail). That's the first she ever said she hates snow. Too young, too young.

The night time winds have been tenacious for the last 4-5 days. I live on the 9th floor and the winds feel like they are going to rip my windows out. Somewhere enough of it gets in so it has been plunging my bedroom temperatures way below comfortable. Nothing a few comforters can't fix. The first day, a bit of fencing got ripped out of its location and nicked my car. This was at work, and its nothing to complain about though. Many city traffic lights were on the fritz the first night. But that is all I can report. So all in all, we are find here.

Dollythehun 03-05-2018 03:36 PM

So glad, Tindo! Tell your young sweetie in Indiana we call hail and snow "snail."

Glad you are well, too Subrosa. I hear you are going to get another round?

Cool, I was just making it up.

rbarata 03-05-2018 05:19 PM

Look how was the weather yesterday in the southern areas of my country...this video is specifically of a F1 tornado (one of the several that occured).
There have been a lot of damage, especially for farmers and their ghs...some people killed by sudden floods.
So, you're not alone....

Dollythehun 03-05-2018 06:06 PM

I'm so sorry rbarata. We hear little here about your country's weather. I hope you are all right. Is your weather normally so volatile?

We should have things about 90% back to normal when we get hit again Wednesday.

rbarata 03-05-2018 06:26 PM

Most of us are alright, thank you...mainly major property damages.

Our weather has changed significantly in the last decade. We used to have well marked weather conditions for every month in the year (it was almost possible to tell with a certain degree of certainty how the weather will be this month or next month, or the next...

Now, we have major dry spells for most of the year and when it rains, it rains in a week what should rain in the whole year. That's the tendency we are now noticing.

This kind of weather you see in the video is/ normal for this season, although it should not be so intense. And lately we are having tornados too, not so strong as in the US but enough to create a lot of damage.

You are in utility work? God bless you. If that's true, it inspires confidence!

We have been very blessed here. There is flooding around us, with another storm coming in tonight. Our weather is warmer than I remember as a child but it doesn't seem to gave changed dramatically. Maybe others won't agree with me on that. Don't get me wrong, we've had our share of straight line winds and lake effect snow...

I work in utilities in a tangential way, as a traffic flagger. It's been an interesting couple of days to be sure. A coworker was hit by a car this evening, but thankfully she checked out ok and seems more shaken up than anything. But she's around my age, so I suspect she'll be feeling it in the morning.

rbarata, we have had crazy weather, too, in the last decade. When we first planted the fruit trees, I never imagined having them bloom in February or early March but, now, that is happening quite frequently. We get these crazy warm spells, the trees burst into bud or bloom, and then it gets cold again and all the fruit is lost...year after year. Then we sometimes have really cold weather in the middle of summer. It is just hopeless. This spring, we are cutting down the plum and apple trees and taking out the grapes. I surrender!

Wow, what a crazy winter everyone else is having. Good luck to all!

Plum and apple are excellent choices of wood for smoking meat, so you might be able to enjoy eating from those trees yet!

The night of 3/7 on into the 8th was the worst storm as far as heavy wet snow that I recall having here in Vermont in many years. We got around 17 inches but thankfully I myself didn't loose power. My sister had bought a portable 'generator' for me for Christmas, and Tues I did a practice run with it in order to ensure that if I lost power, I'd still be able to have the heat mats warm. (Losing power for me means no heat in the house.)
So Thursday morning it was still snowing some, not too much. I was plowed out in time to head out to work, but that was not to be. The plow guy apparently scraped too low down my driveway and unearthed a boulder. This boulder was lightly covered in snow and I mistakenly thought it was just a blob of snow-NOT! I drove over it and was stopped in my tracks. Long story short, and a chunk of change later, I'm back on the road, and hear we're getting yet another storm. UGH! On the up side, I think I'm going to go snowshoeing tomorrow up in the woods behind my house :)

No-Pro-mwa 03-10-2018 10:52 AM

Sorry to hear about the auto. Have fun snowshoeing.
