Replacement Plant for Scaled Dendrobium
|
Same vendor? Open and inspect it outside! Take pictures of unwrapping (you can delete if everything is fine).

Especially if it's the same Dendrobium from the same vendor, I would keep it isolated from your other plants until you're sure it doesn't have scale.

Not focused well enough for me to see. The problem is scale eggs may hatch down the road. They generally aren't out in the open like the white spots you showed. The fuzz hides under sheaths and in the crevice where leaves meet stem.
The plant does appear to have a keiki, visible in the lower right of the last photo - the one with your hand visible. That is nice. It isn't quite big enough to separate yet, but it might be by late spring next year. |
Clean
Pretty Clean looking IMO

I have lots of leaves with yellow spots that do not seem to be a problem. Just keep an eye on it to see if it spreads quickly. Plant looks very good, just keep an eye also as estacion seca says for scale that may develop later. Keep it isolated for a while until you're sure it's clean

Not sure they fly but they certainly spread. And it often takes a while for eggs to hatch and the pest to become apparent. I would isolate for at least several weeks, preferably a month if the vendor previously sent you a plant with scale. Having a small light stand would be useful.
|
Get a systemic insecticide like Imacloporid, spray it on it now, and again in two weeks. That should deal with it.
|
Ok, new problem tonight
That little Yellow leaf spot afore mentioned now is spreading around:
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...psmxr9q1nw.jpg Too little water? disease? I moved it into another room last night with a hair more light but wasn't sunny here at all today? http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...psiifr2woc.jpg |
This seems to be a good article about scale.
|
|
I can't see anything about the plant that would worry me.
|
Is it planted a bit too deep??
|
Return of Scale?
|
Charles...that looks like an asian lady bug to me. I can't tell the scale of it but I donxt think I'd worry. The are everywhere.
|
Maybe some large scale scale.
|
Oh. Baaaaad pun.

Did you say what the name of this is (tl;dr)?
There are people here who can look at a plant and tell if it is deciduous or not. I'm not one of them. I don't grow but a few Dends and I grow them pretty much the same (knowing one is definitely deciduous and the others are not). Have you looked into the parentage? Could the leaf drop be normal? |
Dendrobium Tosca 'Shiraz Ice', orchid plant.
Don't know if it's deciduous or not. But it is fading fast. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps3shrxe70.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...psnjosgvsi.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...psw4bcizoc.jpg |

The lady beetle might have detected some food (pest insects), check you plant again with some magnifying glass if you have it.
|
It's dropping leaves because it's in a new environment. It probably is now experiencing lower humidity, and is in a less water-retentive medium than before. Roots were probably damaged during unpotting and shipment. They drop leaves when underwatered. Even so, they should not stay wet. In that large bark you can probably water again as soon as the roots are dry.
Your plant overall looks still healthy. My Aussie dens are beginning new growth now, but they are still very warm and bright. |
A change in environment as estacion says is probably your problem. In my experience Den. Phals. are very prone to do this .
