First bloom Cattleya eldorado
2 Attachment(s)
My Cattleya Eldorado finally bloomed!:bananaslide: It is actually not as blue as in the photos.

Very pretty. I like the shape of it.

Is this coerulea form or just tipo in a blue cast lighting?

#No-Pro-mwa: Thank you.
#Leslie: Just the camera probably trying to compensate for the brown background. |
Has the flower fully expanded? Usually 3-4 days to reach full size. Perhaps a close up pic? Looks like a venosa form?

Today is its first day of being open. If it continues to expand and/or the color deepens, I will take another picture. Thx for the info. I know a lot of orchids do that.

Nice!

Exciting! What were the parents used?

It is a seedling, possibly a selfing, of C. Eldorado concolor punctata. The lip must have reverted to wild tipe as far as the concolor was concerned, but in the center of the purple margin you can see a slight darkening, probably from the punctata characteristic.:scratchhead: The main development since yesterday cannot be photographed. There is now a strong, spicy fragrance.

I took this picture outdoors. Hopefully the colors look better

I am reposting this photo as it does the best job of showing the punctata characteristic.

The concolor punctata colors came through with the light shell pink, large yellow orange throat disc and the deep 'punctata' marking in distal lip. However as you mentioned the 'typical' magenta lip margin came back. Perhaps this variety is not as stable as say the flameas, and the reverting to the tipo is always in the genes. A selfing of this flower might eliminate that in some progeny.
On that note, the shape is nice with the erect dorsal sepal and petal carriage. Makes the flower say 'look at me!' Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I thank all of you for your kind words. And, Leslie, I enjoy this discussion of the more biological side as well. I personally like the flowers concolor or tipo. So no real disappointment there.

Don't forget that as plant matures and grows stronger, flowers can get larger and fuller and even deeper colours. It's a keeper for sure!
