I've got it bad... (newbie; pics)
(Please forgive the cell phone pics.)
I had bought my first Neo, a Kinkousei, somewhat over a year ago. The seller only had one that he wasn't willing to part with, but he divided a fan off for me. Over the last year, it pushed out a few roots and, near the end of summer, just barely started a new growth. Its moss was looking extremely gnarly and I didn't like how it was seated on the mound, so I've just re-mossed it -- my first attempt. I think it came out okay? http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...8cd5b782aa.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...6de365000f.jpg Also picked up at the local greenhouse, which I think just got a shipment of Neos, a Keshoumaru. I haven't seen much mention of these; does anyone have any info on the form? http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a89424164c.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...0e89dd3424.jpg And also received these from OL -- Byakko, Oonami Seikai, Hisui, Suikaden: http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...4e14e419e5.jpg And here is the whole lot, sharing the window with a few small Catts. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f2b1dcd4c4.jpg (There's also a Shutennou, an Isechabo, a Tamakongou, and a Soubiryuu in there. I had found a good price on the Soubiryuu, so I snagged it.) And, of course, I have a massive (and expensive) wish list... :( R.I.P. spring paychecks. Though I'd like to make sure my culture is at least okay before getting too much crazier. So, um, help me, y'all. This is dangerous. I haven't even looked into pots... |
Kristen from NWO is coming to our April meeting and I plan to do a pre-order...and will probably take a good look at what she brings with her. :)
I just have a couple and grow them in LECA so I cannot really advise you on how your potting job is but they all look very healthy and beautiful! |
The view out your windows is also spectacular!
|
Very professional looking! Only have 3 here and can't wait to see your blooms so post when they're ready for their close-up!

They look great! |
Looks good to me but then I only have 2 that are a mix. Orchids in general are just addicting.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! :)

Lovely, neos. They are my favorite genera.
Thanks |
Sweet little plants! Love the elaborate 'bedding'. Reminds me of "Princess and the Pea".
I haven't seen those pots for sale before. Anyone know where you can get them in BC? |

If you do eBay, search for Neofinetia falcata. There is a vendor in Japan that sell these footed, black, plastic pots especially designed to grow Neofinetia in sphagnum moss--known as the kokedama or Japanese style. The pots are sized 2 3/4, 3, 3 1/2, and 4". |

There's also flora peculiar. I heard Terry was fantastic. Catalog-Supplies |
gorgeous! I like everything about your set up. Does it ever get too sunny in that window?

It gets increasingly sunny in the early spring (it's approximately SSW-facing) -- most of my catt-types are speckled in red -- but the trees will start to leaf out soon and then it'll be too shady for everyone else in that window. I'll move the Neos (and almost everybody else) outdoors as long as it's warm enough. :) I did consider keeping the Neos inside; it might be enough light? But I think they'd like it better outside. |
Nice collection and setup! Very Zen and peaceful!

Keshoumaru is considered an easier to grow lookalike to the more famous but difficult to grow Benikeshou. It gets white tiger type variegation and some red pigmentation that's showing in yours, but usually doesn't get quite as red as Benikeshou. It has its origins among the strains of neos from the Amami Islands. It should also get ruby colored roots. In many ways it's a similar variety to Hokage, which is much more common here in the US compared to either Keshoumaru or Benikeshou, but Keshoumaru has some differences in the way the variegation develops as well as in physical form. Regardless, you have an excellent specimen of the variety. :) |

It was starting to push out little pale pink root tips when I purchased it; we'll see if they change to ruby under different conditions or as they grow larger. |
