Rlc. Memoria Anna Balmores 'Convex'

Rlc. Memoria Anna Balmores 'Convex' is my favorite orchid. It has 5 1/2" bright, fragrant blooms that are self supporting and don't need to be staked. It blooms on every new pseudo-bulb. It's a vigorous grower and very disease resistant. It blooms on one or two pseudo-bulbs at a time, starting in October each year. Last year, new blooms kept opening for 10 weeks. I don't know if all clones of this plant are as good but this one is a real performer.

I have a seeding with the tag that says RLC Memoria Anna Balmores and I can't wait to see when it finally blooms in a few years. It is a very robust grower :) If my blooms look anything like yours then it will be a prized orchid in my collection as well ❤️

Mandy, at first it was just an average cattleya but I never divided it and as it got bigger and bigger it started really blooming well. It has about 40 pseudo-bulbs on it now and really puts on a show.

I always look forward to seeing your beautiful cattleyas and this one is spectacular. Do you have any large, healthy plants that haven' t bloomed? How long do you wait before giving up?

If you have some large cattleyas that haven't bloomed, I can think of two possibilities. First the plant may need stronger light. Some cattleyas require fairly bright light in order to bloom. The other thing is that they need long nights of complete darkness. If you have a porch light or some other light shining on the plant at night, that will keep some cattleyas from blooming, especially if they have C. labiata in their ancestry. Also, I've heard that giving large doses of fertilizer or high nitrogen fertilizer in the fall can keep some plants from blooming but I'm not sure if that's true. I don't really have a problem with orchids not blooming but I give a plant two or three years before I decide if I want to keep it or not. Good luck.
