OMG! Wonderful!

NYCorchidman 10-16-2015 12:57 AM

Fabulous!
Do you grow it outside?

I dried mine too much last month and killed off all the sheaths. oops!

Now I have a whole one year to wait because mine only blooms around December.

IncurablePlantHead 10-16-2015 07:59 AM

Yes, stays outside year round. Never ceases to delight! Hope yours recovers nicely.

WOW!
I have some getting ready to bloom, but only 2 stalks.
There are only 2 year old, from bare-root, but I have been hoping for more blooms this time around.

Now that they are getting more light and I finally get done the planned divide/re-pot, I hope to start seeing results
closer to what you have.

I enjoy the fragrance.
Last time that was how I noticed that blooms had finally opened.

Wow, fantastic!

I have a small 'Little Stars', it bloomed the previous winter, but not last year. I have moved it onto a mount and into more sunlight - hoping for spike(s)!

I am curious what medium you are growing in, and how much sun does it get?

terracotta7 10-16-2015 12:02 PM

Amazing!

WhiteRabbit 10-16-2015 08:38 PM

Holy smokes! Stupendous! :wtg:

Absolutely stunning!!!!!!
I bought mine 3 years ago at Home Depot. It was in a tiny pot and was not healthy. I mounted mine this spring and it seems to be happy. It has 7 spikes beginning to grow, can't wait to smell the flowers soon!

It grows atop a 10 inch pot filled with grow stones which are normally used in hydroponic situations, but I can't complain since it obviously loves its growing conditions. It gets nearly full sun as the sun approaches midday, then filtered evening sun. Not much in the morning.

You grow this in grow stones?
I have heard that grow stones cane have pH level out of range for orchids over time?
Maybe not.
Do you treat grow stone in that pot with chemical to condition it every so often??

How long has it been in this pot?

My B. Little Stars are starting to walk out the pot again. I have to repot, but I really do not enjoy repotting epiphytes. The roots are such pain to deal with. lol

Yes, it grows in untreated, straight up grow stones. I've heard all the negativity about grow stones, yet they are usually at least a component of most every potted orchid I grow. I've been using them for about two and a half years. I grow my orchids outdoors in the forest garden year round. Those grow stones get a crazy amount of rinsing with our near monsoon season in the summer. Never had a problem and I grow a myriad of orchid genera.
