Zygo hybrids SPIKE!!!

I got home from a boring day at work to find SPIKES!!!! I am so happy. I left these plants outside all summer in a little plastic green house. The temp is starting to drop so I was bringing them in and saw one good size spike and the plant has a little one. I am very happy. This is the first time they re-bloomed for me I have had them since dec 2014.

You really need patience when it comes to growing orchids. Thats why I like to keep many around so one is always in bloom.

Here is my Zygopetalum

Congrats! I know the feeling exactly - we're just a few days from our zygo buds to be open :)

so now I have my Miltoniopsis About the bloom and now these 2 zygos in spike. I think I have found my green thumb. Now if only I could get my paphs to rebloom but I think they will need the most time.

Congrats!! I have a zygo but never bloomed for me..has two growths that are not yet mature so let's see what happens..any tip??

ThePinkCucumber 09-04-2015 03:39 AM

Iray - if it doesn't want to bloom try a slightly warmer environment or slightly more light. And by slightly I really mean slightly - I managed to burn a few leaves!

Oh my!
Thank you,I put it oin the balcony let's see what happens...!!

New growth is always a good sign. Mine were getting a good amount of sun and temperature change.

It seemed like the Spikes just showed really quick. So give your new growth some time to grown and you might have a spike.

I agree with snowflake - I've been watching my Zygo like a hawk and then suddenly one day there was this fat spike coming out, I couldn't believe I missed it.

Excellent job, so exciting! Looking forward to seeing your blooms. :) I must say I'm not so sure that some of my Zygo hybrids are all too fond of warmer temps, most likely though it is still an issue of air circulation...I will update under a diff thread.

But cheers to yours!!!!

Let's see I would be very curious to see the blooms as I bought it on sale and without blooms :s
