Project 2015 Summer: Lc. Miss Wonderful
Here is my order from SVO today:
Lc. Miss Wonderful 'Billy B.' AM/AOS x (Lc. Tokyo Magic x Slc. Dream Cloud) 'Heart of Gold' is on the far right. It looks like a sheath is starting on the newest large growth. http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...e/DSCN0015.jpg ---------- Post added at 10:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:21 PM ---------- Quote:

Lc. Miss Wonderful, Orchid Project, Summer 2015
Hi Everyone! As you may have seen, the orchid project for us cattleya lovers has taken off. In this thread we will see the progress from shipment to sheath :) (I am ever hopeful I will get blooms). Go ahead... Post away! I await your updates :)
@Camille, could we make this a sticky thread? Thanks! |
I've added the sticky for you. I've also copied in one post from Wintergirl showing plants.
Have fun  |

My order came in Yesterday, but I had a dinner party to attend so here they are today! I only ordered 3 plants, but he gave me an extra Miss Wonderful since I'm an AOS member.
Both of them have the same L. anceps, so it should be interesting to see how the siblings compare to each other. One had a sheath that is dry, so I'm not sure if it will flower or not. The other one has new growth, but no sheath :dunno: guess we will see. The other 2 I got are: L. tenebrosa v. aurea 'SVO' x. L. tenebrosa v. alba 'Thonhauser's Treasure' C. trinae 'Cashens' x. self |
Those look really nice! And... Your scaring me a wee bit. Are these as huge as the pictures make them look?
Those bulbs though! They look so succulent! |

Attachment 113628 Attachment 113629 The pseudobulbs are a little wrinkled, the new growth is really big. The sheath inside looks a little dry, hope all is well. Bulbofett, A dinner party and an extra plant, nice :) |
I got a email saying mine wouldn't be here till Wednesday and will be shipped out Monday and I even ordered them Thursday.. It said 2 day delivery but its really going to be a week. Crazy I just hope because of the 4th of July they don't sit in a mail room some where in the heat we have been having here. It was 98 the other day.

Yes... I'm sure they will get to your house long before Friday rolls around.
I was under the impression that these were gunna be compact... I may regret ordering three lol. I hope my eyes are deceiving me. I never was a good judge of size from pictures |
Mine also should be here Wed. I have two different Miss Wonderfuls and added a Sarco and a Den. Australian Artist. Can't wait. The pictures you guys have posted so far look like the plants are much bigger than I expected. :)

Well I repotted my Miss Wonderful. The media was in good shape but I just have to do it ;) The roots were very tight in that little pot and I had to use tweezers to get some of the media out. There is a clump of spag moss near base of plant, it was in good shape too. I repotted in chunky bark in a clear plastic pot with a lot of air holes. I put some marbles in the bottom to help with stability.
On a side note I bought a bag of Miracle Grow that was FULL of bugs. I will never use them again. This is the first time this has happened but I don't care, never again. Luckily my husband accidentally brought home a bag of Better-Gro special orchid mix and I used that for the first time. Some of the chips are pretty big, but nice and bug-free. I added some ground-up egg shells to top. Some pics of during and after: Attachment 113630 Attachment 113631 Attachment 113632 |

You mentioned better grow... Their orchid mix is the only mix I use. The miracle grow seems to be a glorified peat mixture which is a death wish. I have had very good luck with better grow, and their Moss is very good also. I might try repotme.com, but they seem to be a little spendy for what I'm doing now. Just my :twocents:. Just so I don't lose my marbles when I unbox these, how large are they? Height wise? And did anyone get a spike at all in their hauls? |
Ok finally, I got mine ordered. I was trying so hard not to get to many. I am having a hard time taking care of what I have now. so I only ordered 7  wanted a paph really bad and didn't do it. Here's my list.
Lc.Miss Wonderful w/L.anceps Rustic Royalty Pot. Toshie's Charm Slc.Wasp Next 'Red Red' Lc. Sergio Araujo (L. alaorii x C. trianae Gur. aurantiaca 'Mishima Spots x Mishima Spots 2 C. Leoloddiglossa x bicolor coerulea SVO Blue |

Thanks :) The largest growth is 11 inches from base of plant (not including roots). No spikes on mine but all have active growths and 2 have probable sheaths. I'm happy. ---------- Post added at 08:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:19 PM ---------- Quote:

I'm going to try to track down a plant on this side of the pond... Don't think I'll find since many hybrids available to you guys are not common here, and vice-versa. But I'd like to try!
I'm confused though, are you buying the actual Miss Wonderful, or Miss Wonderful x something else? |
Quote:
|
Ok, thanks. Though I'll probably be happy to find anything with Miss Wonderful on the label, be it the actual hybrid, or a cross with it!

Colette got Lc. Miss Wonderful x. (Lc. Tokyo magic x Slc. Dream Cloud). So her plant will make a new hybrid. Not sure what the name would be. Hope that clears things up :blushing: |

That's to bad. Maybe find another cross you both can get and see how they turn out.

Is there any differences in how to raise these Mini Catts and the compact Catts? Or do we just treat them the same and hope for the best. This is all new to me with its culture. Any suggestions as mine should arrive tomorrow.
|
In my experience compact catts are less fussy. The minis need more even watering while the larger ones are my old battle axes that go through thick and thin.
|
The plants come tomorrow! Can't wait! Stay tuned for pictures.
|
Hi everyone! I just saw this thread and this project sounds so interesting! I love catts! Can I join in?

Mine should come today also. I too find the smaller the pot the more you have to water. So they do take a bit more care.
