Inobulbon munificum
The plant is growing in a 6-inch plastic basket with New Zealand sphagnum moss as the media. This is the first bloom for this plant. I had another Inobulbon munificum which rotted out and died a couple of years ago. I was lucky to get this plant to replace the one that died. Inobulbon munificum is related to the dendrobium family and is grown under dendrobium conditions.

Note that the photo to open this thread was taken in May 2015. This same plant is blooming again in August 2016. Unfortunately, the flowers are not long lasting. They will start closing within a week.

Look what I've found after coming home from a three week holiday 😀 My neighbor watered the plants. He must have done everything right 😀 |

Sure I will.
Mine just won't be as brilliant as yours 😀 BTW. Mine grows in a wooden basket. Medium is 3/4 epiweb cubes, 1/4 coarse sponge rock. I needed a very airy medium because my plants are outside in the summer and when it rains a lot and the temperatures fall, other media tend to get soggy wet. The downside is I have to water every day when it gets hot. But most of my plants are mounted, so I have to water often anyway 😀 The basket is hanging in a tree. It gets maybe 3 hours of full sunlight from 8-11 am |
The spike is growing fast

Wow!! Gorgeous species. I never new it existed until now. Thanks for sharing guys, I think I may want one too.

😀
Yes it is. It's not only the flowers, I actually bought it because of those hairy pseudobulbs. Genus is now Dendrobium btw. |

wow, this is a very photogenic orchid!!

I always wonder why the plant developed those hairs.
I guess it's against insects crawling towards the leafs. |

The month of August seems to be the blooming season for my Inobulblon. This is August 2017. The plant is growing in Kiwi bark and hung in a 10-inch plastic basket.
