I liked the looks of the Amesiella monticola, so I ordered one from Ray and got it last week. I decided to mount mine.

judith_arquette 05-05-2015 09:32 AM

What a cutie! Mine left Philadelphia this morning and should be here tomorrow afternoon, I can't wait!

shadytrake 05-05-2015 11:08 AM

I checked on mine in the GH yesterday (will be purchasing another for the project) and it seems to be bulging as if it is ready to put out a spike or a new root. That is exciting! I grow it mounted on my wet wall and it gets daily watering. Just fertilized with a urea free bloom booster + Epsom salts + Kelp fertilizer.

It looks good!

LovePhals 05-05-2015 11:20 AM

I have mine ordered from Hausermann along with a companion Masdevallia! I will post a picture when it arrives!

cbuchman 05-05-2015 11:35 AM

I got mine about a month ago, just because. it is mounted on a Kool-log

RandomGemini 05-05-2015 03:21 PM

I ordered mine from Hausermann's too and will also post pics when it shows up. I have three companions coming with mine.

I was thinking I would grow it potted, but I'm wondering if anyone has grown these in a terrarium.

I find I have difficulty getting into a routine with watering unless I have the option of daily spraying with a squirt bottle in the terrarium. Think it could take the 70-80% humidity and temps into the high 70s and low 80's in the summer?

gngrhill 05-05-2015 03:51 PM

I ordered mine from Marble Branch ( with a companion ) Should be arriving Wed. or Thurs.
I'm excited !

camille1585 05-05-2015 03:56 PM

I'm still contemplating what to get as TCs... And have TWO orders to deal with!

From Germany I'm getting the project plant, 2 TCs I really wanted, and MAYBE will add in Den cucumerinum.

From my favorite Dutch grower I'd get the Podangis, but am struggling to decide what the TCs will be. As my basket is now it's a bit expensive to get everything. The total number of orchids over both orders is 9 for now! Want to get it down to 6....

I have until the end of the week to decide, both places ship on mondays.

Good luck on making that choice

camille1585 05-06-2015 03:53 AM

I ended ended up placing my order in Germany last night. Sadly I had to take the Den off the list for cost reasons... Traveling with the project plant are Phal Little Sister and Gastrochilus dasypogon. Now to sort out the other order!

ashley05 05-06-2015 08:01 AM

I can't wait to get mine! I ordered two traveling companions. This is my first Hausermann's order. I've heard such good things about them. I am so excited!

Skycat 05-06-2015 12:11 PM

Mine just now came in, from First Ray's

judith_arquette 05-06-2015 01:11 PM

It looks great! Mine should be here in today's mail (usually comes around 2:30), the wait is excruciating! Are you going to keep it potted or mount it? I'm trying to decide what to do when mine comes...

Skycat 05-06-2015 01:36 PM

I might repot it in bark. With orchids, I don't really trust moss, unless it's in a terracotta pot. Also I don't think I have anything to mount on.

AuGrower 05-06-2015 02:41 PM

Just ordered mine from Marble also. They should ship on Monday, so I should have it on Tuesday. I also added Dendrobium bracteosum to keep Amesiella monticola company on the trip over :).

Cntry 05-06-2015 03:39 PM

Mine arrived today from Rays. I have a few yellow leaves on mine as its been 85 here in Maryland for the last two days.

I will keep mine in moss for now as its stressed . Then I may later change it to a little moss and bark.

I took pictures but my new computer don't have the correct port. So not sure what I will do to get pictures up yet.

Skycat 05-06-2015 03:59 PM

I'm reading some about these, and apparently they need lots of humidity... and cooler temperatures than what I'm currently able to give, until such time as my parents are able to afford to have the air conditioner fixed.

Got my project plant today. I am happy with it. Is it really this small and can be blooming size?
I also got the Podangis but it won't be here till Friday.

It seems so. Mine has the start of a spike.

judith_arquette 05-06-2015 06:22 PM

Mine didn't come today as expected, hopefully it won't be too stressed by the extra day in the post. I'm leaning toward mounting mine because I'm a chronic, compulsive over waterer and I'd really like to keep it alive.

gngrhill 05-06-2015 08:02 PM

Mine came today from Marble Branch. It came with traveling companion "Den. aberrans X Hisako Haraguch. A cross between the aberrans and an antelope - Phal type. Also they included a bonus," Encyclia Chien Ya Smile. I don't really know how to grow that. No experience there.

Cntry 05-06-2015 08:49 PM

What a wonderful surprise, I think we all like bonus orchids.

Mine just came from Ray's today, and I have decided to try it on a Kool-Log. It does have a small new growth, not sure whether it's a leaf or bud yet.

So that's what a Kool-log is! Turns out they're surprisingly cheap, too. Maybe I'll get one once my wallet recovers a bit from being wrecked by these orchids.

Got my package from Ray today and couldn't be more pleased. Im not sure but I think it may be starting a spike...

LovePhals 05-07-2015 06:43 PM

Wow, that looks awesome, and looks like a spike to me!

---------- Post added at 06:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:41 PM ----------

The cool log also looks really neat. I saw some Masdevallias on that went I went to the local orchid show. I didn't realize what they were called.

I picked up a mounted plant from Brookside Orchids on Tuesday! It has a new leaf and green root tips, but one of the mature leaves is a bit yellow. And I think it might have gotten more yellow in the last two days? Ack, I'm worried I'm killing it already!

camille1585 05-08-2015 05:41 AM

No news yet from Elsner orchids on when my order will ship from Germany.... Hope it leaves Monday, which means I'll get the package 5-7 days later.

ddivey36 05-08-2015 01:35 PM

I just ordered mine from Marble Branch Farms along with a Brassocattleya Yellow. I sure hope some others sneak into my box!!! Should have on Tuesday.

I was soo close to getting Dendrobium Ueang Pheung! I kept putting it in my cart and taking it out lol. I told myself I have to wait and see how well this one does first. Self control is so hard when it comes to orchids  .

camille1585 05-08-2015 04:17 PM

Self control? What's that? Between this project and the Podangis side project, I have 7 new orchids arriving.... :blushing: Thank goodness that they're all pretty cheap! In my defense, last time I ordered orchids was in October!

Just took pictures today. The one with the 3 plants are:
Amesiella monticola, TC, Den. Aberrans X Hisako Haraguchi, and bonus, Encyclia Chien Ya Smile . The picture of 2 is because I have a question ; The Amesiella is kind of just sitting on the bark and I'm wondering if I should pot it a little deeper so the roots are covered. what do you think ?

You could simply add a little bit of bark or a few strands of sphag over the exposed roots.

ashley05 05-08-2015 05:13 PM

I'm getting impatient. I ordered mine on Sunday and still haven't received a shipping notification. :(

I don't blame you, have you tried contacting the vendor?

I was thinking about mounting mine to help compensate for my chronic over watering compulsion but it came from Ray's in sphag in a basket so I'm thinking that's pretty much the same thing...am I correct about watering it when the sphag is almost dry but not letting it dry out completely?

shadytrake 05-08-2015 06:22 PM

My bonus did not arrive today...sigh...have to wait until the check gets here.

RandomGemini 05-08-2015 07:17 PM

Mine arrived about two hours after I left town. My daughter opened the package and the Amesiella Monticola looks fantastic! One growth with a second growth happening and new root growth is evident. So I am really pleased. Unfortunately one of the TCs fell out of its pot and it was the one I was most concerned about. Other plants arrived fine and the max ten arrived in bloom!! I was shocked by that, as I didn't order it that way, but I'll take it! Coconut smelling flowers here I come! Pics when I get some place with decent data coverage!

Orchid Smiles 05-08-2015 07:25 PM

I ordered mine from J&L Orchids and received it on Wednesday (I will try to post a picture when I can - I am technologically challenged and not afraid to admit it!). The plant looks really good and is potted in their usual mix of "sticks" and bark.

I also had to order Traveling Companions:
Masdevallia cyclotega
Aerangis citrata
Mystacidium braybonae

I am a sucker for Masdevallias, and I want orchids with fragrance!
