Hello everyone, I had a very tempting day. I went to the last day of the Pacific Orchid Exposition here in sunny San Francisco CA. And it was difficult but I came home only with a small purchase, and not an empty wallet.

:biggrin:So what I got:
Enc. Cordigera
V. Falcata "Pink Lady"
Pleione Yunnanensis
Pleione Forrestii
Dendrobium Spectabile V. aureum
Dendrobium Spectabile Joyce Kelly
Dendrobium Spectabile

Of this plants the ones that I am venturing with is the Pleione, and expanding on my Dens. I hope I don't kill them.

sorry for the quality of the pics, my camera died and I had only my phone to take pictures with.

Here is what the flower of the Enc Cordigera looks like, which is the only one I got in bloom.

Wow- gorgeous plants! Would love to get a Den Spectabile to keep my other Dens company ;-) Is the various-shades-of-green one the V. aureum?

I'm jealous...I wanted to buy more, but brought a friend along to help me say no and I think she helped me say no too many times! I only got two new plants. I also feel like I should have picked up a few more pleione...I only got the formosana from another vendor and should have gone back to the vendor where you got yours for more variety.

Anyway, beautiful plants!

Aahhhh......Plieones.....

Tried to grow those years ago. They look so cool when in flower.

But alas, I killed them with love.

Yes it is, that is one of the reason I wanted one. The ones I got are still very small, so it will be a while before I see any blooms.

Yes the scent is very nice, not very strong, and yet strong enough to be notice when you pass by the plant. Hope you get to have one too.

I feel you, I also wanted to buy more. When did you go? I made it a point to go on the last day, because I new that way I could not go back the next day. Also I learn that they discount some of the plants in the afternoon of the last day. So you can get some bargains. So until the next in March:biggrin:

Oh by the way I forgot to add:

Rlc. Glauca from "orchid Eros" is my first mini catt. I expect to have green blooms.

Just wanted to updated you on how the new orchids are doing. So far have not killed any one. One of the Pleionies had a flower spike that came with it, and it stop growing, but quickly put out a new one, as you can see on the picture. They are also sending lots of roots. Some one told me to put them outside, and I just don't want to chock them as they are starting to establish (any ideas?).

The Rlc. Galuca is flowering and here is a pic of one of the buds.

And I also finally get to see how "Trick or Treat" looks like.

Nicely done!

Just an update:

So, Pleiones, here is what I have learn so far. Pleione Yunnanensis is harder to grow, it had issues from the beginning and I was glad when it put out a new spike (new spike means new roots on the way=new bulb) but in the end the new spike stop growing and now has started to dry out, the roots also stop growing. And the bulb is started to look very dry as well (I think I can say that it is done).

Attached are pics of both of them and you can see the difference in growth.
I think next time I buy pleione bulbs, I will buy the ones with out a spike forming (yunnanensis had a spike forming but the other one did not).

Oh bummer. :( Don't have any Pleiones myself so can't offer any help but I feel your pain.

No-Pro-mwa 05-04-2015 10:32 AM

Me either, not having them I mean. So sorry about them.

Thanks for feeling my pain, and I new I was venturing when I got them, is all part of the process right!? I mean, we need to kill some to learn how to care for them (good thing this only applies to orchid and other plants);).

Thanks. At least I get to learn and one out of two is not too bad. I'll just put the label on my RIP jard:(
And as we all know you got to kill your good shared of orchids in order to call your self a hobbyist, and since I had not kill any so far with in the last year, this puts me back on track.
