C. Hsinying Pub 'Albo Sanginea' first bloom

Hsinying Pub 'Albo Sanguinea' (C. Batagesi x C. purpurata). I got this as a freebie 1 1/2 years ago from Clouds as a medium seedling. So I wasn't really expecting a bloom yet as its a fairly small plant. But this bloom popped up. Last night as it was opening it looked like quite the ugly little duckling. And it did have a damaged spot on the lower sepal which caused it to be kinked. But this morning it was a rather elegant looking bloom, aside from the damaged spot. It already has a faint floral scent. It looks a lot like the purpurata parent I think. The bloom is a good 4.5 inches and the photo doesn't do its shape justice. All in all I am pleased and can see some potential for the next blooming.

I say it is lovely and an indication of future beauty. A great freebie!

Very curious how the second flush of flowers will look like, but it already looks great, does it also have the growpower of a purpurata?

Thanks! It is very elegant looking which doesn't show completely in the photo. When I got it as a freebie, I saw it online and thought, uh, it's OK, but I wouldn't order it. I have changed my mind!

It isn't really robust at the moment but roots are good, so hopefully it will take off this summer.

C. Batagesi is C. loddigesii x C. Batalinii, and C. Batalinii is C. bicolor x C. intermedia

Goodness it dwarfs the plant. Nice bloom. Some one said in another post, pictures don't do them justice. I think some you just have to see in person.

Thanks! Some of my pics capture their beauty well(I feel) but this is not one of them. It's very elegant in person and has now expanded to 5 inches across.

Sometimes I'll put my plants that are blooming on my TV tray while I watch TV so I can stare at them :blushing:
