Blooming a Yamamoto Dendrobium

I acquired a couple of Dendrobium Spring Dream 'Apollon' from Yamamoto Dendrobiums of Hawaii in May 2014. The plants were purchased with reservation since I did not know if I could bloom these plants under warm weather condidtions at my residence. Well, it has been a pleasant surprise. When I brought the plants home, I repotted them into 6-inch plastic baskets with bark as the media. The plants have been hanging under 50% shade. Buds started appearing in December. The tallest cane on each plant is 15 inches tall. Five canes on each plant are carrying flowers. One plant retained most of its leaves while the other lost most of the leaves before budding. The flowers have very little fragrance. According to the label the plant is patented.

Congratulations! That's a gorgeous show.
I had to put mine outside because I actually found the fragrance overwhelming and unpleasant.

Amazing!

That hybrid is a warm tolerant one, so should bloom with much ease compared to some other hybrids.

Looks amazing by the way!
I find the fragrance on these very pleasant! ;)

Another Yamamoto Dendrobium in Bloom

This is another plant (Den. Love Memory 'Fizz') that I acquired from Yamamoto Dendrobiums of Hawaii in May 2014. When I received the plant I immediately repotted it into a 6-inch plastic basket with bark as the media. The plant has been hanging under 50% shade. Buds started appearing in late December. The tallest cane is 18-1/2 inches tall. One cane has 27 flowers. The second cane has only buds. This plant is blooming two weeks later than Den. Spring Dream 'Apollon'.

Very beautiful.
They need a dormancy period right?

Beautiful! Just got my first nubile and it is done flowering, only 2 buds left and it's only 6-8" high with what looks like about 8-9 new growths. Nervous about it. Yours are absolutely georgeous!

NYCorchidman 03-04-2015 11:59 AM

Love Memory 'Fizz' is one of my favorites.
