new to orchid board
glad to be on this board...i've been viewing others post for some time now. i've taken a lot of useful information from this board...very informative and sometime information overload, esp. for beginners. I have eight orcids so far (you're right...it is hard to stop buying them once you get the bug). all but two, my wife and i have purchased, have been rescues. They are all loving life at the moment. I just purchased a new cattleya that is called "tropical pointer cheetah". Very nice. pics to come if i can figure a way to post.
look forward to many good times on board sharing pics and stories. |

thanks everyone. i just created a gallery of some of my flowering orchids. "cheetah" is there as well. i'm guessing the cheetah name is because of the brownish color and spots on the stems. great find at the local store...at least i think.

Good Morning Tradervick,
I thought I sent you this message, but can't find it anywhere, sorry if you get it twice. Your orchids are beautiful! I see you have the same decorative pot I have with drainage holes. What do you use as medium to prevent the orchid from drying out in a day or two? Thanks much for the info and welcome. :waving |
Welcome to the Orchid Board. Glad you could join. You are right, that cheetah is really something. Congrats on the nice rescues.

pots and medium
Thanks for all the replies.
Maree - i use clear plastic containers, same ones the orcihds come in when purchased. I just slip the plastic container in a decorative pot. When i water them, just take the orchid out of the pot, water well and let them drain, place them back into the pot. Medium - all phals have sphagnum (they like to be wet a little longer than most orchids). all the dendros and catts have mixture of bark, charcoal, and stuffing peanuts (not a lot). These orchids like less moisture than phals. The key is to use clear plastic...lets you see the roots. Keep the roots happy, they in turn keep the leaves happy. When the leaves are happy...you get rewarded with great blooms. |

I tried to send an email but you don't take them. My mother was from "South Mills, NC" you close to that area? |
