Yup, my very first! I was afraid of what I'd do with 30 plants that were all the same. With the prices of Paphs though it'll be worth it to trade the extras. Now, instead of $35 for one plant, I got 30 of them for $35. I might just have to wait a bit to see a bloom ;)

Congrats on your first de flasking . It is so exciting to watch them begin to grow. Yours looks so good and healthy.

I have 4 flasks left to do of mine as the plants were so tiny so I am giving them a few more weeks. Its great to trade with others as you build up your collection. If you would like to trade just let me know. I have all the pictures of my collection under propagation. Just look for "ALL 8 FLASKS Came In Today" There is a list there of all the orchids babies I have.

The Paph's seedlings came in today and they look great... Thanks for trading with me.

RandomGemini 08-14-2014 12:53 AM

Will this be a maudiae type?

I googled the name and came up with this thread, so I couldn't find any pictures of the bloom. :(

NYCorchidman 08-14-2014 12:56 PM

Most of them look fairly big and healthy! :)

orchidsarefun 09-25-2014 09:56 PM

The ones she traded with me are doing fine. They are getting bigger and look very good.

czayta 09-26-2014 11:18 AM

Mine are doing wonderful. I will take some pictures of them this afternoon. :)

Bulbofett 09-26-2014 04:02 PM

I'll post some pictures of mine when I get home. Currently visiting family in KY. Can't wait to go to the orchid show tomorrow up here :)

Bulbofett 09-28-2014 05:04 PM

Update on my paph seedlings. I lost quite a few from some form of larvae. You can see the past damage in the pictures. The remaining bunch are working on new leaves though and doing well.

I hope you are all going to try your own crosses now that you have seen how straightforward it is to deflask and grow the seedlings on....
:)

Oh for sure I will be. I've learned a lot with this first flask. for example, I will never make the mistake of keeping them outside again when they are small like this. That is how the larvae got to them in the first place.

I've also realized that a huge reason people breed is to get the best possible quality plant. I wondered for the longest time why people would breed existing hybrids when they could just go and buy the same exact thing, only mature. Now I realize they do it because the mature plant you see for sale in the nursery probably wasn't the "pick of the litter" as they say.

Of course there are many more benefits to growing from seed, so I'm looking forward to my next flask project. I'm hoping it will be one that I've bred.

Hello everyone. I have four of these little seedlings from Bulbofett and they are awesome! :D

Since Bulbo had mentioned there might be little caterpillars accompanying the seedlings when they arrived, I have kept them isolated in this bag/greenhouse I made for them. :P
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-i...-no/14%2B-%2B5

It's probably safe to remove them from the bag setup, but they seem to be doing just fine in it for now.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9...-no/14%2B-%2B4

I have never had a Paph before so I don't really know what they prefer for growing habitat.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-c...-no/14%2B-%2B2

One of them had a brown spot on its leaf that was spreading so I cut the tip of the leaf off to stop the spreading.

They look really great czayta! I can't wait to compare pics in a year.

I wonder if these are some of the slow growing Paphs or moderate ones. Do you know? Some Paph's take years and years to mature and flower. (10+ years... lol)

No, the ones that he had which were mature he said only 5-7 years from flask, but he had some that flowered earlier than that.

Great job and best of luck to you all!

On another note, these are Vanda denisonia protocorms :D They are starting to look like little planties. I have 4 in this jar.

I am not sure. It might be a Paph. maudie alba?

Bulbofett 11-01-2014 03:59 PM

Its beautiful! Makes me excited for when ours bloom. Still a long way off but exciting nonetheless lol.

here is another picture of Paph. maudie alba. The flower is a little bit crooked, but still pretty. And I love the checkered leaves.

And here is another picture with 8 hanging vandas in the background. :)

I finally got a good picture of Paph. Pisgah Lime today. So, those of you who traded with me, this is what yours should look similar to.

No, this one has a fairrieanum in it.
It is a typical look when maudiae type hybrid is crossed with fairrieanum.
Pretty!

No, even earlier.
Maudiea type paphs are some of the earliest to mature to flowering size.
Most should bloom within 3 years out of flasks.

+10 is rather extreme and only for certain multifloral, even older ones I would think.

lotis146 01-30-2015 12:28 AM

Those are all beautiful!

Cntry 01-31-2015 07:50 PM

Wow they are just beautiful. I can't wait to they bloom and all 4 of mine and doing well.
