Rhyncolaelia digbyana
So happy! Neglected the orchids for a day and came home from work to find this blooming! My first rebloom with this species so I am particularly happy. (Plus the plant wasn't cheap). http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/10/ruje5eze.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/10/3uve3ypy.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/10/4ety2eny.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/10/a9eju4y5.jpg

Beautiful!

Wonderful! I love this species, too. Looking forward to my next blooming.

Nice.

Congratulations! Lovely, as they always are.
This was one of my first orchids and still my unchallenged favorite for fragrance. My oldest digbyana has been with me for at least 25 years and just finished flowering. Steve |
Nice large flowers, wonderful.

Awesome!

Gorgeous! Great growing!
|
nice flower on a nice old plant. :bowing
mine grows painfully slow. I might have to chuck out the money for a full grown one since I cant buy myself any more time ;) |
My co-tenant just bloomed his (photo is still in my phone). It is a good clone, which regularly sets two buds per spike.
Question to other growers: Does your digbyana normally do single or double flowers? |
Thank you all!!!!

I spotted another bud sheath on the same plant today :).

Hi Both. They are not on the same spike but on the same plant. Is 2 separate sheaths. Will post now. But think the second sheath will only bloom after the first one dies.

Here it is. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Such delicate lace like filigree. Gorgeous!

Excellent photos of a very nice looking plant Way to go!
|
Great-looking bloom. This species loves heat and humidity, so I would imagine that it should be a fairly easy-to-grow plant in Singapore. Have you gotten to experience the wonderful scent it produces in the evening?
|
I haven't. I stuck my nose in it one morning and there was no scent. Sadly the flower has wilted by now so I have to wait for the next bloom.

Spoke with Kyle (owner). The plant in question always throws two flowers, but they are sequential, so that only one is open at a time. According to Kyle (Catt specialist), he has seen a few other digbyanas do this, though it is not common. On the pics I took, the open flower blocks the view of the second bud. Being alert to the rarity & sequential blooming habit, I will try to get a pic of the buds the next time around. |
