it may be an old hybrid, that been around for a good while, but from being bit by the orchid bug some 8 years ago, i really enjoyed this one, and still do... Nr.1 on my top 10 favorite orchid list.. just one of those no frill no fuss easy plants to grow, and once established, grows like nobody's business...

bethmarie 07-02-2014 10:52 AM

oh, gorgeous!

Picotee 07-02-2014 10:55 AM

Very pretty. I have this also. Easy care in my conditions and easy on the eye.

Vanda lover 07-02-2014 11:38 AM

It's beautiful! Is it fragrant?

NIVENJ 07-02-2014 02:03 PM

Have not picked up a fragrance yet, but should think there be a hint of something there . Will have to go sniff around.

WhiteRabbit 07-02-2014 07:56 PM

Wow! Fabulous!

LOL. Easy to grow yes, easy to bloom no. At least not for me nor a couple other folks I know. Had one for years and finally gave it away as I could not get the foolish thing to bloom. Later tried a cross made with Maikai -- same story as the first. Won't ever waste the space on one again. Instead I will just enjoy the fruits of the labors of such folks as yourselves.

I had one of those once, it was HUGE!! I loved it, then it got scale. I lost the whole thing! Anyway I digress, it probably has a very nice scent in the evening because of the Brassia influence, I am usually up very early in the AM and it was still fragrant then.I HAVE to get another one of those....Jean

tryingtoflower 07-02-2014 09:51 PM

That is absolutely gorgeous. I sure will be looking for one.

RJSquirrel 07-02-2014 10:40 PM

yeah mines grows easy too. it more than doubles in size each year but wont bloom ...gone from a 4in clay pot to a 1 gallon bucket in 3 years. I read they wont bloom if they are too crowded then I read they wont bloom if they arent enough light. I read more why they wont bloom than why they do bloom ;)

nice flowers when they do mysteriously bloom :waving

Mine has grown to a large plant also and blooms every year, but rather stingily in my opinion. It gets many new growths and the plant looks healthy but not all of them bloom.

RosieC 07-03-2014 07:00 AM

Really gorgeous!

euplusia 07-04-2014 01:38 AM

The plant is doing great under your conditions, with sufficient light.

samarak 07-04-2014 02:12 AM

Agreed, still a winner. My wife has a couple of clones that she really likes. (She usually confines her nodosa hybrids to things with Richard Mueller in the background.)

Point taken, Paul. I have amended my comment to easy to grow 'in my conditions.'

I can't say anything bad about this plant. I just re-potted mine because the basket in which is was contained was falling apart. I broke it up into about a dozen pieces and put it in an eighteen inch basket. I am expecting loads of flowers between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It appears to be on schedule for you in South Africa.

Mine is quite large so maybe I should split it into multiple pieces to get more blooms. But it produces many new leads so that's not really my problem. Mine is the 'Spotted Star' cultivar. Maybe it is a stubborn bloomer.

I love the blooms and upright growth habit, just would like more blooms - like yours :)

tucker85 07-05-2014 10:56 AM

Very pretty! Good growing. I agree those are strong growing plants and reliable bloomers.

We totally agree. Our BC Maikai 'Louise' which we have been growing for 5 years has noe been in flower continually since last August. We have been glad it was one of the first orchids we ordered from Cloud's here in Canada.

NIVENJ 07-05-2014 01:35 PM

Really gorgeous, liking the darker colour flowers. And the plant itself, wow. Great growing there s&k maley.

Leisurely 07-05-2014 09:55 PM

Silken, since you like the plant so well, if I were you I would look for another clone. Mine is "Magumi" and I think there is also one or two others.

The thought has crossed my mind. Maybe mine is virused too although there is no colour break in the blooms and it grows very well. I think it was a poster on OB who said the 'Spotted Star' cultivar bloomed better than the other ones which is why I chose it :scratchhead:

And I do believe you can get a bad plant that just doesn't perform too.
