Neofinetia falcata NOID Ya-kyuu 野球
Almost a year ago I bought a flask from eBay vendor Elvis.813 (ebay vendor). I ended up with thirteen larger seedlings and twenty one smaller seedlings. Over the past eleven months I have grown these seedlings in eleven pots. Five compots have very small plants. The other six have grown to a size represented by this plant.
This pot shows three plants. I think when they double in size, I would repot each plant in its own pot. I do like how full this pot looks with three plants. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3705/...f40b9931_b.jpg Ya-kyuu 野球 by MattWoelfsen, on Flickr https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5234/...04a2b0e0_b.jpg Ya-kyuu 野球 by MattWoelfsen, on Flickr https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3711/...844b6dac_b.jpg Ya-kyuu 野球 by MattWoelfsen, on Flickr This one goes to Ginger. |
It does look really nice with more than one. I like the leaves...very graceful. :)

They look great!

Very cool! Those do look great for a year out of flask, testament to both your growing and high flask quality. I also agree they look nice together, and a mass planting of 2 or 3 clones could be pretty amazing in bloom.
|
Thank you all for your kind comments. Gnathaniel, I did not think about being a mass planting, since these are all the same age, they will probably bloom at the same time when they reach that stage. That will be something to look forward to a year or two from now.

Hilarious... I had my suspicion from the romaji u posted and the kanji appear to say the same thing... it's translation is 'baseball' ;). Something u might have already known though. I wonder what part of the plant they were referring to when naming this one :p
great growing though! greetz, Dries |

It figures YOU would get it. When I posted the acquisition of this flask a year ago, the provenance of this flask was that it started in the Midwest of the USA down to Florida, and then as it made its way to me, it went through Jacksonville, FL, then to Dallas, TX, then to Indianapolis, IN and finally to me in Fort Wayne. It bounced all over the USA, like a baseball. Tracy/Rangiku, provided the name. I wanted to update that thread but I couldn't find it? So it is a NOID, but named by members of this board. |

Yes that reads like a nice combination, but wouldn't these grow larger than a mini-bean? Is this a cross you made? Fuji-Nishiki would provide beautiful striping. |
The flask had about 10 seedlings from Japan. It was a gift from one of the growers there. There were 2 normal long leaved, one tiger and other plain. The rest were beans like the kujakumaru ... None of the beans were striped... YET... Meaning sometimes stripes appear in years to come... Here are some pics

Leslie I can't wait to see these seedlings matured--I suppose that will be a long time from now! LOL. I was perusing Seed Engei's Facebook. They have pictured some stunning mature Neofinetia. Here is a link, I was amazed to see this plant and others fully grown!

Aren't they just gorgeous plants! I have a few that are getting large too... And yes a few years for the seedlings to mature to see full potential. Can't wait!!!
