Neo. Seedling care help please.
 

Today I did an impulse buy on ebay and bought a flask of Neo. seedlings. The seller said she'll do the deflasking for me, spray them with a fungicide and put them into a compot.

What I am asking u all is that what do I do after that??
It's already potted up for me. So I don't need to get seedling mix.
How much light? Water? Fertilizer?? Humidity?? And anything els that is helpful.

I replied to your posting on the other thread. Since you haven't received a reply, I'll share what I did to get my new Neofinetia falcata seedlings started.

The vendor did de-flask my seedlings. It was in a small plastic bag and padded. While you are waiting to receive this flask:
1) Find a suitable 'nursery' to house all your seedlings. You need to be able to cover your seedlings and keep their growing environment with high humidity. I used plastic Chinese Carry out containers. This container has a white plastic bottom and a clear top. It proved to be an excellent choice.
2. Get high quality sphagnum moss.
3. Line the bottom of the container with very damp sphagnum moss.
4. When your flask arrives, remove them from the bag, and wash the seedlings until all the seedlings are clear of agar or flask growing media. It will be like black jello.
5. Sort your seedlings into large, medium and small.
6. Place seedlings up right in your container and cover the roots with high quality, wet sphagnum moss.
7. Cover your containers with the lid, and allow them to sit in bright light, not direct sun.
8. I kept my seedlings in this configuration for at least a month.
9. Then I started hardening them by keeping the lid off of them for a day, covering them back up at night.
10. After a month of this, I kept the lid off. But watched the containers to make sure the sphagnum moss is almost dry.
11. Once these were all placed in containers, I have watered these containers using reverse osmosis (RO) water. The water was room temperature.
12. On the fourth month, I put these seedlings in compots. I posted a picture of those compots in another thread.
13. I continued to water these compots with RO water. But I treated them like older Neofinetia, allowing them to dry out between watering. But if they appeared too dry, I just watered these 11 pots.
14. The picture I posted is how they look now.
15. From here on out, these plants will be treated like other Neofinetia in my care.

I hope this helps. I'm pleased that I lost maybe 5 seedlings? When I put all of my seedlings in their compot, I did have 3 per pot.

I think she's skipping strait to the compot stage. So she might be cleaning them for me. I'll have to look again or ask her if it's not stated in the description.

I know what u meant with take out containers. U have them in my pantry. I mostly use them with storing rice and grain though.

Any good alternative?? I don't know if I have any available.

I think you'll have a couple of days before your babies arrive. Might I suggest you order General Tso Chicken, Kung Pao Shrimp, and Sweet and Sour Pork? I'm being serious!

What you want is a container that you can pop the lid off to check and water your plants but the top needs to be clear or slightly opaque to diffuse bright light. The little seedlings flourished in these containers. I have ordered a flask of Laelia hybrid and doing the same to them. There are plastic containers you can buy at the stores. Glad or Rubbermaid is making containers that have clear white lids. I suggested Chinese takeout because I love to repurpose plastic.

Oh I forgot to ask. Do u think this will be a good enough fungicide??

No, I wouldn't use anymore chemicals on these new seedlings. The eBay vendor--Elvis? Or something like that, does spray these plants with fungicide before she ships them to you. When you first open your bag it will smell like fungicide or something chemical.

Ok. Just wanted to get all me info down on this. I'll say it again this is my first flask ever so I want to do things right.

OK. Today I got them. I put them in two brownie tins with clear plastic lids. And sprained them with a diluted fungicide I have just in case. I sorted them into small and medium. And larde gets its own container. I'll post a pic up later tonight.

So far so good??

There r a total of 14. 4 large. 5 medium and 5 small.

What do u think??

Cute!! How big are the containers?

The containers r 8x8 inch. I went to walmart and got the disposable brownie containers with clear lids.

Wow! The seedlings are bigger than I imagined. So adorable!

I have them spread out a little though.

Keep them under these containers for at least two to three weeks, opening them for an hour, but do not let them dry out, as these seedlings were 100% humidity in flask. Then after this period let them have open air for longer periods of time until after a month, let them stay uncovered. Keep careful attention and do not allow them to dry out--keep them almost dry before re watering. After the third or fourth month pick your strongest seedlings and pot them into one pot, 2-3 seedlings per pot. Do the same all the way down to the smallest seedlings. I have found that Neofinetia seem to do best when potted together. This is how I ended up with eleven potted plants.

I should open the containers up now for one hour day?? Week?? Or wait three weeks and then open them up for a hour??

During the first three weeks, I would open the containers and let them have some fresh air. Then close them.
