Thought I would show a few things now blooming. Unfortunately, the dated collection kind of shows my age, but some of the oldies are still great! I apologize for the terrible photos. Guess I am going to have to get a tripod. I just shake to much anymore. L to R unnamed tampense hybrid, BLC Erin Kobayashi 'Lahaina Gold AM/AOS, BC Moon Miss 'Lunar Dawn', Onc Twinkle, Onc Twinkle 'Pinkie', LC Mariner 'Far Horizons', Pot Mark Koch, SLC Angel Eyes.

Really beautiful, Jerry. Your Twinkles are spectacular! I hope mine grows up to be so nice. :)

Nice collection!

Beautiful stuff, Jerry!! If you ever decide that you do not want Moon Miss 'Lunar Dawn' let me know. I'll be glad to give it a home.

Love your collection, Jerry. So many of the oldies are still very desirable. I had forgotten Bc. Moon Mist 'Lunar Dawn'. It was one of my favorites. It hasn't lost any of its charm. Thanks for the memories.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I hope that everyone noticed the damage to the leaves on the Onc. Twinkles. Being a short time poster here, I have been quite impressed with the spotless foliage on the plants pictured here. I gather that a great many members are "under lights" growers. My hat is off to all of those growing the wide variety I have seen here. Having grown under lights for a few years a long time ago it is I who feel jealous of some of the plants I have seen here on OB.

Tindomul 12-17-2007 10:30 AM

Wow that LC Mariner 'Far Horizons' is amazing! I love it!

Sara 12-18-2007 08:30 AM

WOW WOW WOW! Amazing growing Jerry! I just love oncidiums. :)

Being new to orchids as I am there's noting old. Your collection is magnificent.

It's those oldies that can really impress, sometimes all the hybridizing just muddles everything up. Btw, I don't need perfect pictures to see that your plants are very happy campers. I grow under lights and many of my plants certainly aren't perfect...accidents happen, bugs happen, as does disease . Thanks for posting.

Thanks Barbara. I certainly agree with you. Some of the oldies have every bit as much beauty and charm now as they did when they first became available. As far as bugs and disease go, I always tell people that there are only two kinds of orchid growers; those that have them and those that are going to get them! I still think all of you out there who grow under lights are real troopers. At one time I had about 200 square feet under lights. Man, what a chore!!

Man I love the Moose, the flag is cool but he would look better carrying a orchid.

Frdemetr 12-19-2007 12:12 PM

Jerry,
I love all your oldies! Blc Erin Kobayashi is hard to find here, but I found Lc Mariner 'Far Horizons' in a brazilian nursery ( Orquidário Santa Bárbara - Loja Virtual na Web! ) a few months ago and I was in doubt....looking at yours I decided it will be my first order in 2008!

Frederico, I have had this plant for over 20 years and it never fails to impress me. Since I suffer from "one of" disease (you know, just have to have one of these and one of those) I try and limit pot size to a maximum of 61/2" which does not allow for lots of growths, but this hybrid can and has produced 5 influorescences with numerous flowers on each. It does make for quite a show. I grow a number of the so called blue Catts, but this has the deepest coloration of any. With only 3 species in its background and being half purpurata, seeing all those wonderful purpuratas of Mauro's, how could it not be impressive! L purpurata is beyond a doubt my favorite orchid. I just wish I had all the wonderful clones and the expertise of Mauro!!

Jerry,

Loving purpuratas, you must visit Carlos Gomes website ( ::Orquidário Carlos Gomes:: ), if you did not visited yet! Another good one is :: Bela Vista Orchids - Assis/SP/Brazil , try "selected orchids FS=1 plant"; the selected purpuratas are salty but wonderful!

Jerry Delaney 12-20-2007 12:06 PM

Oh, my! I think I'll be just fine once I get all the drool wiped off my chin!! Thanks for the links Frederico.
