Warning: new Neo addict
You know, you people really ARE bad influences....Now, thanks to you, I've added Neos to my orchid addiction....
Came home with 5 (yes, FIVE) from the orchid show in Columbus today, courtesy of New World Orchids (great people, great plants, great selection, and they take plastic--what more could I ask?)... So, I picked up a Hiroba Furan that's already started new growth, couldn't resist the Higashidemiyako for the pale leaf margins, then saw the pink/purple root tips on the Youridoushi and the purple leaf markings in Tamakongo, and the pink-flowered Benisuzume somehow found its way into my hands as well....And best of all (since I'm out of shelf space), they all fit on the ledge formed by the lower sash of my windows. Hmmmm, there's probably room for a couple dozen more.... Did I mention that you people are BAD influences? Catherine |
Welcome to the neo addiction:rofl: Just wait until you start with the really cool pots!!!

I went to an orchid show today, and there was not a single neo there at all! I fully intended to come home with one!
I have been holding off on ordering a neo online, in hopes that I could get one that had been grown locally by someone else... but now I'm just gonna go order the plants I want. LOL! |
I know....I've already found the threads about making pots....
Catherine |
Congratulations! I think every collection needs at least one (or three) Vanda falcata to be complete. :)
|
Or four or five or.....
You know, I fantasize about hitting the lottery and being able to go to these shows and say "I'll have one of each." There's something about these orchids--the hybrids with them are nice, but the species in all its varied forms has a character and delicacy that seems to me to be lost in hybridization. Guess I'm a convert. Catherine |
I have acquired 8 (6 are mine and 2 belong to my kids) in the past two weeks. They all came from New World. The good news is that they fit nicely on windowsill ledges! On my " neo ledge" I have room to easily fit 6 more without having to crowd them!
Congrats on your new purchases! And if you feel the urge to buy more neos you can come to the Michigan Orchid Society's show April 12th and 13th. New World, Hausermann's and Ecuagenera are just some of the vendors that will be there. |
Well, it's probably good for my family budget that I am at a coaching clinic that weekend, otherwise.....Hmmm, groceries or orchids--tough choice....After all, I DO keep saying I need to lose weight.

Welcome to the club! Make sure to set aside a good portion of your paycheck each month. You'll need it! :D

ROTFLOL!

How was the show??
I just got my first Neo. today. Its love at first sight. |
The Columbus, Ohio show was pretty good--gorgeous displays (better than last year, I think, though people said things are blooming late due to the cold and dark weather), good vendors, and fairly heavy foot traffic consisting of both orchid club members and "civilians."
New World had a nice display showcasing their Neos as well as Den moniliforme and Sophronitis coccinea (I think?). Catherine |
Hmmm...I'll have to look and see if there r any shows going on in my area. with everyone talking about shows and stuff I'm going to have to find one close. Hehe

You are almost(?) equidistant from two shows, if you head northwest towards Detroit, Michigan, the Michigan Orchid Soceity's annual Palm Sunday weekend orchid show is being staged in Madison Heights, Michigan, this town is due north of downtown Detroit. Here is information on the show. New World Orchids, along with many other vendors will be there: http://www.miorchids.com/MOSAnnualOrchidShow.html If you head east, on the same weekend, the SouthEastern Pennsylvania Orchid Show will be staged. This show will have many vendors including Seed Engei--a large Japanese Orchid vendor. http://www.sepos.org/annual-show.html If you want to go further west, Central Indiana Orchid Society will hold its annual orchid show. My orchid society will have a display there. This is also held on the same weekend as the first two: April 11-13, 2014. http://www.centralios.org/central_in...ociety_003.htm Note to Catherine: Welcome on board the Neofinetia train! |

Oh no, there goes another perfectly normal orchid grower into the dark realms of Fuukiran growing! I'm afraid there is no going back!!
We need to form an addiction support group "Neofinetia Anonymous" Welcome Catherine to the wonderful world of Neofinetia's Regards, Craig. |
Neofinetia Anonymous, huh? Isn't that the group where step 1 is "buy more neos?"
Thanks to all for the welcome (and for being addiction enablers)! Good thing all three shows Matt mentioned are on my coaching clinic weekend. After all, Indy is only four hours away.... Catherine |
Catherine, YES the first step is to buy more Neos. There is a Neofinetia Facebook group you can also join, talk about a bunch of Neonuts! Our Central Indiana OS show is smaller than the first two I mentioned previously--large or small, it is a lot of fun to see what other people grow. We probably won't have any Neofineta specific vendors but I bought a very nice size Kishusekko 紀州雪虎 from Michaels Orchids, a Sederia japonica and a Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Blue Bird' last year that were very inexpensive and healthy.
