Have you ever heard of this vendor?
Hello,
I hope this question will be considered appropriate (not advertisement). Have you ever heard of "the orchid house" vendor? I want to to buy some orchid from their website (theorchidhouse.org) but I would like to learn from your experiences (if any) with this vendor. Thank you. |
Your question is appropriate but should be in the vendor feedback section.
I have not heard of this vendor, hopefully someone else has as I grow S/H and it looks like they have some interesting plants. Thanks for posting the link. Joann |
First time I have heard of this vendor. Sort of odd that a commercial enterprise has a .org address.

Check reviews on Dave's Garden. If there aren't any and the company isn't listed, maybe look for other reviews somewhere. Make certain that, somewhere, you get reliable feedback before ordering.
We ordered for the first time from a company (not orchids) without checking reviews first and...wow. What a mess. Never again. |
Tom learned about S/H culture from me when I was giving a presentation down in Norfolk way back when, and became a wholesale customer of mine not long thereafter.
I would trust him. |
Great to hear! :)

Going to move this to Vendor Feedback, but as Joann said we don't consider such questions as advertisement, it's good to ask for the experience of others before you buy from someone :)

FWIW: He had plants for sale an the recent Maryland Orchid Society Show. His plants looked healthy enough.

Well, I'll find out soon enough. I just placed an order. The only thing is that their shipping seems to be a bit expensive-$45.00 for two plants and five pot hangars.

45 dollars does seem expensive for shipping. Maybe because the S/H medium is heavier?
|
Wow, that is expensive! Maybe you are getting huge specimen plants!
|
I'll be "right here waiting for you" lol! If you don't mind, could you upload a photo when the plants arrive? Thank you  .

That is one of the problems with selling S/H plants - the cost of shipping. Dry, LECA tends to be roughly twice as dense as bark or CHC. Wet.....hoo-boy.
You also don't know the means of shipping, either. USPS can get pretty pricey, which is why my discount with FedEx Ground & Home Delivery is such a blessing, and this time of year the weather is still uncertain enough to require an expedited service. |
Have you ever heard of this vendor?
In my case, I live on the Texas Gulf Coast east of Houston. So, weather is not a factor this time of year. It is in the 60's right now and raining.
Ya, I'll try to take a picture or two. They should be here on Friday (I think) Beverly A. |
