You are way ahead of most people for the blooming season Ginger, thanks to your 'no wintering' culture! It is very nice to see all these beautiful plants and blooms!

Neo tricks

Your plants are beautiful, what's your secret? I've had one plant for many years and it's alive but has never thrived. I grow it on a west facing windowsill. How do you fertilize yours?

I collected so many that I didn't have anyplace in my house to put them for wintering and believe me I worried about what would happen to them. Still have my fingers crossed. ;)

Thank you :) it hasn't always been so easy. Last year I started growing them under lights, use a cheap humidifier & fan. They seem to love this set up. I rarely fertilize and then it is a weak solution of Orchid's Limited's Green Jungle.

bk10 03-23-2014 06:51 PM

Nice plants and pics. Mine are just starting to wake up. Can't wait to see the root tips and flowers!

Joyorchid 03-23-2014 07:01 PM

Ginger, may I inquire about your lights and distance from the plants?

tryingtoflower 03-23-2014 07:09 PM

I tried growing mine in a little tabletop greenhouse for awhile thinking it would like the humidity but it needed more airflow. I'm growing roots perhaps soon a spike. I can't tell you how many times I almost lost it. Tough little buggers!

dries666 03-23-2014 07:28 PM

Ginger, I think u posted a photo of ur hanagoromo where ur hokage was suposed to be... The pictures are amazing though, mine are barely waking up and they didn't even have a colder period.

greetz,
Dries

I think it's about 14 inches. I'll measure tomorrow. They are downstairs & I am upstairs. I still have difficulty with the stairs (the surgery)

Joyorchid 03-23-2014 11:51 PM

Oh, an estimation is fine! Please dont exert yourself! What kind of lights do you have?

Craig Gibbon 03-24-2014 04:16 AM

Beautiful Ginger!!! I'm green with envy!! Mine are starting to slow down here in South Africa, going into winter mode now.
Hope you recover soon so you can spend more time downstairs with your Neo's.

Regards,

Craig.

Thank you so much Craig I have seen pics of your fantastic collection your comments are appreciated. I am getting stronger everyday; at present I am just making one trip a day up the stairs but believe me I spend most of the day near my Neos. :)

Joyorchid 03-24-2014 10:31 AM

I think the neos will speed your recovery. :)

Thanks Joy it just blows my mind that it is blooming like that. I really enjoy these plants; I only grow them now no other orchids.

My Neos are full of new growth, spikes, roots, leaves galore.

It is no wonder why your Manjushage is highly appreciated and desired. I'm glad you are taking photos and sharing them here so we can all enjoy your Neo. This is still an elusive plant for me. I'm just going to have to clear some credit lines and acquire a Manjushage.

You remember this is the one I got last year & the Post Office had really beat up the box & knocked the plant out of the pot. I totally repotted it & was really complaining. Then that Neo blooms like this so easily. It obviously was a strong plant from JO. You'll get one soon Matt :)

dries666 03-31-2014 03:22 AM

That's just an amazing plant Ginger! It must really enjoy your care if it rewards u with such a bloom. They have something beautiful and spider-like in them.... and I mean this in the most positive way since I am really not so fond of spiders :p

Dries

I know spiders.....ugh! Aren't these guys called flying cranes by the Japanese I think I read that somewhere. Let's think cranes

These beautiful blooms are a mystery I can't believe I had anything to do with it you know what I mean. It is in the plant.

rangiku 03-31-2014 01:04 PM

You win the Manjushage blooming race between us, Ginger! It's lovely and rewarded your care with these blooms. Can't wait to see them fully open.

P.S. My spike is still sitting next to its tsuke.

I win just hearing from you Adrienne I always enjoy your posts. :). Two of the blooms opened today I will get a pic out when it is all done. That spike just busted out. All of my Neos are way ahead of time and only 5 out of the 41 don't have spikes. As opposed to last year when none gave me a single bloom. Lol

rangiku 03-31-2014 09:59 PM

Aw, see how much your Neos love you, Ginger? You'll need to take a group shot of them all in bloom at the same time!

This is an excellent idea. I would enjoy seeing a photo or two (or more) of all your blooming Neos. Could you include your pots as well? But don't tax yourself--want to keep you mending!

Smile I can't do that. Only 4 are actually blooming now and the others are all at various stages of spiking from little beginners and there is no predicting when they will develop. I plan to post pics of them when they bloom but sadly no group shot. :blushing:

It is so refreshing to see those greens full of life!!! :)

I love the small one whose leaves are half green, half yellow. so cute!!!

Miss_Cat 03-31-2014 11:08 PM

What an incredible show!! I am drooling... Looks like spring started early for your Neos.
Just curious, what state/climate do you live in and what are your growing conditions? Many thanks.

Actually I am in Virginia in the USA and we have had a really cold snowy winter. Needless to say the Neos are all in doors under T-5 lights. They get light 12 hours a day, I also have a cheap humidifier & fan running. This is my first year using the lights so far I am very satisfied.
