Chinese Cymbidiums
 

I have bought two, one goeringii (in the dark earth colored pot) and sinense from Ten Shin Garden at a local show this past week.

I only developed the desire to buy these on the last day and by then he had just a few left, so I didn't have too many choices. I like them both regardless.

The goeringii is what was recommended by the vendor saying it is the best flowering type. It also has light variegation toward the tip of each leaf. oh, and it has one bud on it, which may or may not develop into open flower after having gone through international trip as bareroot in cold weather. lol

The sinense is beautiful as it is I think. The leaves are variegated the opposite way, having mostly light yellow with dark green edge.

I searched all over China town and Korean town in this freezing weather looking for the pots, and I found them! lol

I potted them up using large stone chips at the bottom, mid-sized hydroton in the middle, and then fine orchiata bark on top, top dressed with some decorative green moss.

Oriental touch in the apartmen! :biggrin:

That sinense is beautiful! And so is it's pot! I wish I could buy them locally! You're so lucky!!

The funny thing is they were the only two pots I could find, each from two different stores. spent all day to find them. lol

The darker one was actually a used one with some dirt on it, but I had no choice. I did bake it in my oven for like two hours just in case. It smelled so nice and new afterwards. hahaha

The second one came from Korea town far far away and it is brand new. didn't have to cook it. lol

Now, I have to make a trip to Asia to find more of these pots just in case these guys will thrive under my care.

Yeah the sinense is incredible. Bob gave me two goeringii, both standard and alba form. I managed to get both to bud. They bud in the fall when the weather turns colder and then they wait until the warm of spring. So the fact that your plants were shipped barefoot in cold weather may actually be a good thing. Well done on the find and the presentation.

I'll come with you when you go to Asia!! I actually like the second pot better. Can you pay a picture of the whole pot?! While I love the fuuran pots, I really like the elegance of such a talk and slender pot!

Wonderful, indeed those are lovely pots. Wish I could find ones like that.

I used to grow lots of goeringii as a kid.
Mine were all wild collected from South Korea. I did not collect them myself, but bought from someone who did. oops!

Straight dark green leaves with pale green flowers with some dark brown markings. The buds would form some time in the winter and then flower would come in the late winter around February.

I hope this new one would open its bud, but I guess only time will tell. :)

Ok, the first pot from China town was the only one in the store among the pile of dirty used ones of different kinds. lol

The second one from Korea town is actually one of many in the store, but they only had this same one design and size. If you really really want these, I could send them to you, but the pots are heavy, so the shipping might be quite a bit.

When I got to Asia, I hope I could find a few different ones so I have options to choose from. :D
