Ok, admit it.....what have you bought lately 2014 edition!!

2013 is over!! :) Now we are deep into the first month of 2014 and I cannot believe you peeps haven't dabbled in orchid purchasing!!

I am being forced to not attend Tamiami this year (again) by forces of nature stronger than myself. So, in my feeble attempts to console myself, I have made the following purchases thus far in 2014:

Blc. Guess What 'SVO' AM/AOS x Lc. Tropical Pointer Sunset 'Ocean's Heaven' SM/JOGA

Sc. Cosmic Delight 'SVO' HCC/AOS x Slc. Circle of Life 'Trailblazer' AM/AOS.

Encyclia cordigera var. alba

Psychilis krugii

Epidendrum boricuarum

YOU'RE NEXT!!!:waving

p.s. I hope everyone has fat wallets to purchase whatever your little heart desires!

Ebay bids in minis!

2 Attachment(s)
I've got roughly 12 hours left on 2 awesome minis. Trias Intermedia, and Chroniochilus virescens. I was just peeking through the Mini orchids pages on ebay, and could not resist their size or their look. Perfect for my little orchidarium. I threw in some photos for reference!

magicatt 01-16-2014 10:15 AM

Miltoniosis Renee Komoda and Oncidium twinke 'pink profusion'

I will be adding to that in about two weeks when I get paid. Seems like there is always something creeping into my collection.

Now if I can just keep them happy....

Daethen 01-16-2014 10:54 AM

I purchased a noid phal from WalMart. I finally found a peloric one!!!!!!

Subrosa 01-16-2014 11:39 AM

A Stanhopea jenischiana, although it was really a present to myself this past Christmas. Once it warms up enough outside humidity isn't a problem around here, but I didn't think I could keep a Stanhopea over the winter due to a lack of a greenhouse. But finding one that actually needs to be a bit dry over the winter sealed the deal!

JimmyTheCack 01-16-2014 10:10 PM

1 out of 2

I got outbid on the Chroniochilus virescens. It really bums me out, but I'll find it again I'm sure! The Trias Intermedia is all mine however. I even found a good piece of wood to mount it on today! Score!

Polarizeme 01-16-2014 10:27 PM

Well.... not so fat wallet, but a couple of small purchases nonetheless.

Masdevallia Cassiope
Masdevallia princeps

I'm still waiting to hear about the princeps, Cassiope is already paid for.

This will have to be the last purchase until April... great sadness :_(

vjo 01-16-2014 10:37 PM

I just placed an order for 3 new Neos...Jean

Leafmite 01-16-2014 11:03 PM

So, the holidays are over and my two older kids went back to college. Sigh. So, to cheer myself up, I was sort of hoping the big box store had some mini phals but, alas, they didn't. So, I went to the OS meeting and....
This little guy is aerangis hyaloides. :)

weederwoman 01-17-2014 12:03 AM

I spent the bucks on a flowering size gongora pleiochroma - orange, an aerangis luteoalba, and an angraecum didieri.

Tabbyblack13 01-17-2014 12:11 AM

I have been thinking about a list. I would like to try mounted orchids on the Kool-Logs that were mentioned in another topic. I also want to start looking at minis too.

I am open to suggestions on what to get for mounts and minis.

I recommend Vanda (Neofinetia) falcata. Not only are they small, they are also prized for their leaves, roots, and fragrant flowers. IMHO, unlike their larger Vanda relatives, they are very easy to grow. Orchid Board has a sub forum: Vanda Alliance - Neofinetia.

Picotee 01-17-2014 07:01 AM

Haven't bought anything yet this year- but the day is young.:)

JimmyTheCack 01-17-2014 09:24 PM

Second chance to buy? Sweet!

The seller offered me a second chance to buy the Chroniochilus virescens, that I had bid on. It cost me a little more, but I had to have it!

JungleMel 01-17-2014 09:57 PM

Oh great, this thread again. I feel like I'm going to confession when I post these things. Lol, ok so I am going to Redlands in May, hotel room already booked. So I said to myself no more orchids until then. I'm kind of out of space and have to sell or give some away, because I'm sure I'll come home with a lot.

No more until then. It's amazing how one can make room for another orchid, even when they're out of room. Orchid Society meeting this month... Can you believe someone didn't want their mature Dendrobium spectabile?!?!?

http://i1203.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0f346e78.jpg

I wanted it, like real real bad! So now that's it, no more orchids until Redlands.

peeweelovesbooks 01-17-2014 10:04 PM

I would have broken my rule too! That's absolutely gorgeous! :)

Haha! Good, glad it's not just me. Felt a little guilty about it, not that it was expensive (it wasn't... Bonus!), but on top of my agreement with myself, I had just gotten finished discussing with the husband that I agreed I had too many for our space (I do.)

And then I go and come home with this. Hey, even he thinks it's "kind of a cool one," (his words) and he doesn't care at all about orchids. Caught him looking at the flowers today...

kindrag23 01-17-2014 10:25 PM

Cool. So squiggly! Lets see. 30 for a cycnoches (and I prob spelled that wrong) golden shower...65 for a SVO fredclarkea after dark. 30 for a mormode from SVO....AND 29.00 for new pots for all.my catasetums coming out of sleep...and 10.00 for dolomite. I now can not under any circumstance buy any more unless it is one of my absolute must haves on my catasetum list. Macrocarpum, cristatum etc...

---------- Post added at 09:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:24 PM ----------

Oh and that was the last week 2 2 weeks.

LovePhals 01-18-2014 08:20 AM

Haven't gotten them yet and will probably wait until the weather warms, but on my wish list- a purple Miltoniopsis and a phal belina hybrid (like samara).
That Den is amazing, JungelMel! No wonder your hubby was eyeballing the flowers!

No-Pro-mwa 01-18-2014 01:12 PM

I have gotten not one thing yet this year. I am going to wait a bit before I make the plunge.

Now there is a Den I would defiantly have taken home.

Leafmite 01-18-2014 01:30 PM

Therein lies the problem of being a member of an orchid society...always temptation.
So, I went a bit farther and did an order from Andy's. I restrained myself and only ordered four new ones. I am, after all, very much out of space. It doesn't help that this place has so many wonderful, unique orchids!!!

Yep. Thats how I got my golden shower.

Daniel Herrera 01-18-2014 07:45 PM

I have not gotten any orchids this year, BUT I am saving and preparing to spend up to $300 at the Pacific Orchid Exposition.

fotofashion 01-18-2014 07:52 PM

Ok, admit it......what have you bought lately 2014 edition!

I'm going to have to look in my records but just this Thursday I bought eight plants. Five from Lowes and three from an eBay auction. One that I won in December but due to a mistake by the seller I did not get until last week. And I'm sure I bought at least two at the HOS meeting this month. Enough already  at least for this month.

My friends.. this afernoon I'm going to go with my other orchid-crazies friends to the house/greenhouse of a friend/collector/seller.... let the force be with me (and my wallet...) to resist the temptation :)

Ok, in the afternoon yesterday my face was like: http://alienationmentale.files.wordp...03/mask-rd.jpg

but I pick ony 2 plants: Hygrochilus parishii and Paphiopedilum micranthum (in bud)

Phalaenopsis is a gift of a friend. I only know it's a species. She knows the species, I'll have to flower it: Surprise!!!

Ruler is 30 cm - 11.8 inches

Bulbofett 01-20-2014 08:15 AM

Haven't bought anything in 2014 yet. Saving my money for the South Carolina Orchid Society Show which happens on Feb 7th! This will be my first orchid show/sale. Then there is another show/sale closer to me in Savannah, GA on Feb 21st. So, yeah, definitely saving my money, even though its been tough.

Well, this past weekend was the NJOS show. I was only going to buy what I had pre-ordered from Piping Rock.

However, I have a very strong character, so I NEVER say no to a temptation. As a result, somehow I came home with:

2 x Paph villosum (Candor XL x Marriott colorburst)
2 x Paph Irish Forrest (Irish Eyes x Stone Lovely)
1 x Paph Iona (fairrieanum x bellatulum)
1 x Paph Cam's Cloud (bellatulum x emersonii)
1 x Phrag Cardinale
1 x Paph Fairezelle (fairrieanum x Redezelle)
1 x Paph (Be Happy x Stone Lovely)
1 x Paph Yellow Light (Irish Eyes x Pacific Shamrock)
1 x Neostylis Pinky (red color form)
1 x Neostylis Pinky (yellow color form)
1 x Darwinara Walnut Valley 'Munchkin' (white clone)
1 x Rhy gigantea (dark spotted clone)
1 x Tubecentron Hsinying Girl - see photo below.
1 x (Ame. philippinensis x Tblm. kotoense)
1 x Dendr. sanderae, var. luzonica
1 x Dendr. kingianum, semi-alba
1 x Dendr. tetragonum
1 x Dendr. Tie-Dye 'Brinawa Ice'

I was sorely tempted by a couple of other items, but finally showed some constraint. Here is a photo of Tubecentron Hsinying Girl:
