My friend's Key West orchid paradise

:waving
My best friends in Key West have gorgeous house and my "dream" garden with lots and lots of trees and space for lots and lots of orchids and grills! THE PERFECT COMBO - She is orchid freak, he is grill freak, over 150 orchids, 5 grills, 1 smoker and every single time the best BBQ ever! I wish to have a garden like this:-)

TOMMYMIAMI 12-22-2013 09:29 PM

Shrimps with basil wrapped in bacon and home made pear BBQ sauce anyone? Or smoked prime rib:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Your friends have a real paradise, love all the orchids in the trees and the food really looks good too.

Yes, paradise it is. That tiny little miny babe I love so much is Pelantheria insectifera, we got it for her in June, and this is the first time blooming, she said:-)

Picotee 12-23-2013 11:00 AM

Thank you, Tommy. It's stunning!

Nice!

Good food and beautiful orchids, what more to life is there?

It is truly "island style" life, orchids and tropical plants everywhere, ocean sound and BBQ every weekend:-) Always such a great time when going there!

Leafmite 12-23-2013 06:33 PM

Looks beautiful!

Hector, at the Keys, it is island life, neighbors are sweet, and pretty much EVERYONE grows orchids outside there, we travel a lot for the vacations together, she has it very easy, her neighbor comes every day or 2 and water them with the hose:-) She does water of course with the hose as well. Plus, do not forget, our crazy Florida weather, it is raining pretty much 9 months a year, so you really do not need to water much if growing outside there:-)))

Is key west really a cool place to live? Any jobs there? What about hurricanes? If i ever move back to the states i would like to live in a nice place... ;)

You told me about your friends from the Keys, and I see that they own a paradise.

Cambria, it is true paradise, but you have to have guts for it, not for me at all! I hate island living, the fact you are cut out of from the rest of the world, nothing really to do, other than fishing, orchids and ocean. Hurricane is the same thing here and there, so no biggy. I am just more culture guy, and this "lazy" island style living where they do live with the slogan WHAT CAN YOU DO TODAY YOU CAN DO TOMORROW AND EVEN NEXT WEEK is just not my cup of tea:-)

Norma it is very nice there, however you garden is I think much bigger, so I love your place that you have for your chids! Maybe not so many grills though:-)

Joseia 12-25-2013 01:08 AM

Absolutely amazing! Orchids and BBQ - now THAT is paradise lol.

Polarizeme 12-25-2013 01:48 AM

How lovely! I think I might like the island living for a short while... might even get used to it!

NYCorchidman 12-25-2013 10:11 PM

I wish I lived in a tropic climate where I could grow outdoor.
It will cut back a lot of time and effort of watering each orchid. just water and let it drain. lol

bellini girl 12-26-2013 08:55 PM

What more could a body want?? Oh yeah, some wine perhaps? Lovely set up, I'm jealous

NYCorchidman, you would be surprise how time consuming it can be down here, especially this year to protect chids from that rain that was non stop the whole summer and fall, and wind! I only wish it was just water and let it drain, for most it was like crab, it's raining again!:-)

bellini girl, there is always some wine when there! Just good times with great food, wine and great people around, many friends living there including Marie-Claire Blais, great Canadian author, I always truly enjoy to have a few glasses of some good wine with her and chat till late night;-)

Short while for sure, but not extended period of time:-) The island style living is killing me when in big doses:-)))))

NYCorchidman 12-27-2013 11:42 PM

Oh, trust me I know.

I used to visit my friends in south Florida and they all had big gardens around the house. Always work as things grow like crazy. mowing the lawn, trimming the hibiscus and other trees and shrubs, pick up the dead brown leaves, pick up the drowned bugs from the pools,,,,,never ending work, but I think I wouldn't mind too much as long as my garden would not be too big. lol Ok, it gets a little too hot for me in the summer.
