Masdevallia Copper Angel
 

In the summer I picked up a Masdevallia Copper Angel during an orchid nursery visit on my way home from vacation (along with some other orchids of course :coverlaugh:)

It's been developing spikes/buds the last couple of months and now it's in flower for the first time. I'm thrilled, I love it. 4 flowers in total :biggrin:

Beautiful! I think that this is the one I should have got. I bought a nice Andean prince at an orchid show because it was cheap. It isn't a good bloomer even though it's healthy.

The flowers spikes are far more compact than veitchianna. My veitchianna has long long spikes going everywhere on the bench, this one holds them more upright even when the flowers are open and they are probably about 1/3 the length but still hold the flowers nicely above the plant. The flowers are a little smaller than veitchianna but still a good size.

It's beautiful! Something to look forward to, as mine is spiking and no where near as pretty as your foliage.

Mine has beautiful foliage, but still isn't spiking.

I think I've been lucky to get flowers so soon. My conditions in the greenhouse are aimed to be right for veitchianna so I think this is happy with that being a hybrid of veitchianna :)

I have one. Not big enough to bloom now, I think. It is putting out a lot of leaves and i see one little spike that may come to something. I hope mine blooms as nicely as this!

The good news is it seems to have long lasting flowers. The same 4 flowers are still there looking as good as new :)
