2014 Orchid Board Calendar Contest

2014 Calendar PHOTO contest.

As before, the best looking photos will make the calendar. If you have taken amazing orchid photos and they meet the minimum resolution requirements send them over. OB is a general non specialized forum, so anything goes, with the exception of NOIDS. You must be able to properly identify the orchid in the photo.

2014 Calendar will consist of 13 images (1 cover and 12 for individual months).

All proceeds will go toward supporting OB.

Few images of the 2012 Calendar:

http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ar-samples.jpg

Each photo will be captioned with the scientific name of the orchid and the name/username of the person who took the photo.

Deadline: Sun Oct 20. 2013 at midnight **SHORT DEADLINE !!!**

Prizes:
In addition to being featured in the calendar, the top 3 voted images will receive free copies of the calendar.
Very Important:[/U][/B] Please email any calendar entries only to
2014@orchidboard.com. If you reply to my emails or send it elsewhere your photo probably will not make the list. There's a script running on the 2014@orchidboard.com so use only that address for sending in your photos please.

You may post a sized version (not larger then 640px in width) of your image in this thread for all to see. I will select the final choices and we will vote for the cover and the 12 images together. This is always very hard.

Don't forget #5 below!

Contest rules.

1. Images must be submitted un-sized and at maximum available resolution. The requirements are
11.5 x 9 in. (trimmed on calendar to 11 x 8.5 in.) at 200dpi. This translates to an image 2300x1800 at 200dpi. In other words the bigger the better. (template here) If needed I will size the images, please don't do it yourself. Send the original files.

2. Orientation of the Image must be 'landscape'. Portrait entries will not be considered. (See example here)

3. Once you submit an image you give orchid board the right to manipulate it/size it/crop it and alter it in any way we want in order to use it, and also re-use the image at a later time in conjunction with other Orchid Board activities.

4. Submitted image must be your own work. Plant does not have to be from your own collection. Use of other or copyrighted material will result in immediate disqualification

5. When you submit the photos please be sure to include the following information.
Scientific Name:
Your Real Name:
Your OrchidBoard username:

6. 2 photos per member. Select your best entries and do not send more then 2 images.

7. Please make sure the photos are free of any watermarks or text.

Have FUN & GOOD LUCK!

NOTE: Only 1 calendar per winner. In other words, If you manage to feature 2 photos in the calendar, you'll still receive only one calendar shipped to you.

OK, I thought I'd share what I submitted to get a little bit of a discussion going. Going for a black and white theme.

Only downside to allowing 2 submissions per person is that the odds increase of fewer folks getting to have bragging rights that they have a pic in the calendar.

Btw, didn't think we were supposed to "broadcast" what pictures one submits?..........

Marty's comments say we can add a small version here and we did the same last year also.

My Green Pets 10-16-2013 07:06 PM

Of course you can! Let's see'em!

Yes you can post your pics, lets see them please!

silken 10-17-2013 06:22 PM

Well, I have entered my photos. Good luck to everyone!

camille1585 10-18-2013 03:02 PM

I'm trying to pick my entries! Usually I never have that problem since my compact camera is too old to take pics of high enough resolution, so I was stuck entering photos taken with a borrowed camera. This year I have my nice DSLR photos to sort through!! :D

PS: I'm really going to try to come on OB regularily again, I miss it. My PhD studies having taken over my life....

camille1585 10-19-2013 05:25 PM

Wow, the contest thread is pretty quite this year....

nenella 10-19-2013 05:40 PM

OMG! I have only just seen this thread and deadline's tomorrow!!!!!!! & I'm @ work all day.... :( It's too late now to start choosing/finding... hopefully 'll have the time tomorrow pm If I don't get home too late.....
Good luck to all!

silken 10-19-2013 06:33 PM

I hope you have time nenella. I too was thinking this thread was was pretty quiet and tried to bump it up a couple times. Maybe everyone is just entering and no comments!

Duane McDowell 10-19-2013 09:19 PM

I've sent mine in. Can't wait to see everyone's pictures!

camille1585 10-20-2013 05:07 AM

A shame that my best photos were portraits, but I entered these 2:

Ah. Thanks for the clarification. I skipped over that part and I was far to late to even consider participating last year so had not bothered looking at the rules thread that time around.

Perhaps folks are hoping to take the competition by surprise.

Don't have the time to sift through my plethora of photos so decided to just go with these:

Here we go. There was one other that several folks had urged me to enter, but these are MY two favorites from this year.

JaneEyre 10-20-2013 11:41 PM

I almost missed this contest! This year went by so fast, things just kind of snuck up on me.

I like everyone's photos so far but I am surprised there aren't that many entries yet.
Anyway, here are my two photos

I submitted the Cattleya rex from this post:

http://www.orchidboard.com/community...tleya-rex.html

RosieC 10-21-2013 08:56 AM

Some great photos there :)

I didn't have chance to look through mine. Like Camille most of my photos are portrait anyway. My other problem is some of my favourites are NoID's.

Good luck everyone!

Cattleya17 10-21-2013 09:50 AM

When does the voting begin????

RosieC 10-21-2013 11:36 AM

Marty will post another thread with all the submitted images and a vote option. I guess it will be quite soon as it's quite late in the year and it needs to be sorted soon to go the printers. Look out for it in this section!

jrhennek 10-21-2013 09:31 PM

I sent mine in. I hope they were received and we will all soon have the fun of trying to pick out the best 13.

Jayme

Marty 10-21-2013 09:36 PM

OK, some gorgeous photos were submitted. It would be good if we could get few more entries though, so I'm extending the deadline until tomorrow night...please spread the word if you know any procrastinators :)

Cattleya17 10-22-2013 05:55 PM

Come on Guys!!!! Submit those Pictures!!!!! I wanna Vote!!! lol!

Oh, I saw this only now...and the initial posting only on the day of the deadline. I want to participate, but since I was already late, I didn't bother to go through my pictures. And now I'm late...again?!

When is the deadline, exactly? I would only manage to submit pictures tonight...which will be...when....eh... around 14-15 o-clock Eastern Time?

I know I'm late. It's the story of my life. I'm still sorry... And I hope I'm not too late.

I'm throwing in a Caularthron bicornutum and a laeliocatanthe 'Meadow Bright'.

Attachment 89967

Two very different plants and pictures.

Until I began scrolling through my orchid pictures I didn't realize that almost all my pictures are portraits, and I've got only a few landscapes in my entire photostream.

flhiker 10-23-2013 04:33 PM

I think most of us take Portrait shots. Glad you were able to find a couple.

Paul 10-23-2013 05:18 PM

I really like that first one, Silje. :)

RosieC 10-25-2013 02:02 AM

At the urging of Duanne I sent in a couple of photos to Marty before the deadline, but haven't had chance to come here and show them until now.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3813/9...0741c31d4c.jpg

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3731/8...b3c0908157.jpg

I debated between the cyp one above and a photo of the same orchid with four flowers in the shot. It was a close one but I went with this in the end.

I didn't have much time to pick photos I just grabbed two which jumped out at me as I was looking at the ones I had.

GardenTheater 10-25-2013 03:01 PM

Rosie, Both are gorgeous. We're going to have a beautiful calendar!
