Can someone identify this orchid for me?
2 Attachment(s)
I've had this orchid for about 5 years now. A friend gave it to me with no info. It is a very slow grower, but has always stayed nice and green and well rooted, but it has never bloomed for me. (figured I might have an easier time identifying it once it bloomed) I fertilize it just like my other orchids. I've never been able to identify it with my orchid books or pics online.

Can you add a picture?

sorry about that....uploading for the first time and I did not attach the pics properly. Rookie. : )

Don't worry mine does it to me all the time.

ok...pics on original post.

I'm not sure but I think it could be a reed-stem epidendrum and they need a lot of light, even some direct sunlight, to flower.
|
I am thinking Epidendrum, bright light, wet but not soaking good draining media (ex. better gro dendrobium mix) fertilize weekly weakly. How long has it been since you repotted it as well? I would place it in a very holey pot that either you make or maybe a net pot.
I will say it looks a lot like a bigger version of either my stamforme or my anttenatum (spelling may be off on either of those btw.) But I would definitely look into re potting it though. Looks like it has some salt build up on the pot.... |
I re potted it about 6 months ago....could probably use it again. I will try moving it. It's in a sunny spot of the screened porch, but that is filtered. I'll move it outside and give it a try! Thanks ladies! Anxious to see what beautiful blooms may appear! : )

For real I would suggest gradually moving it towards full sun otherwise it will get sunburned.

Do you use a fertilizer for it each week as well? ---------- Post added at 08:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:26 PM ---------- I have found that mine really like the fertilizers. |
I usually fertilize every other week...and yes...I'll move it gradually. Especially in this lovely Florida sun!
|
Good luck! Took me 5 years to get this one to flower. It's now in full sun during most of the day, including the hottest hours of the day. It should be lime green leaves with a slight purple tint on the stems.
It's a vigorous and fast-growing plant normally. |
Oh I know texas sun here sun is moving on us and I had to move mine around because even my best sun lovers were starting to burn.

actually, it looks a little more like a dendrobium moscatum to me....mine would grow nice big stalks then some of them would drop their leaves and bloom...they are very attractive flowers, but not long lived....I wish I could find my pics of it, but unfortunately they are lost...
