NOID housewarming gift + 1 for me

Going to a housewarming party on Friday so I decided to check out what TJs had in the way of plants. I found one that looks so much like a silk plant that I had to get it because I thought it so interesting. But it's not really my style, so it will be the housewarming gift, and found one yellow one for me! It's a bit bedraggled, but I really like the flower and I've had good luck with my Burr. Nelly Isler so I'm hoping I'll be able to grow this thing well. Gotta love TJs $7.99 orchids.

Yup TJ's has really good price for oncidium intergenerics. I also go there once in a while to check their selection and usually, you'll find a keeper that's why i have to keep myself from going there too much lol

Both gorgeous, but I like the yellow best like you.

desertanimal 09-19-2013 11:32 AM

Uh oh. I've repotted them both in LECA this morning (their 2" pots were choked full with roots), and now I'm getting attached to the pink one . . .

RosieC 09-19-2013 12:09 PM

Lol, thats the sort of thing I would do.

terracotta7 09-24-2013 05:00 PM

LOL! It doesn't take long to get attached!

That is so funny! It does get easier to gift orchids the more it is done. The first time is the hardest. I think orchids make the perfect gift!

I was good and gave it away. And in the end, I am happy with how the yellow one looks near my blooming Burr. Nelly Isler without the competition of those pink flowers. :) So it worked out. No giver's remorse.

Way to go. I would love to receive a gift like that :)

Here's a question though: where does TJ's get their plants?

Leafmite 09-26-2013 08:18 PM

I just love Burr. Nelly Isler. It is one of my favorites. :)

desertanimal 09-26-2013 09:33 PM

I love it too! It's bloomed twice since I got it this summer. Can't complain about that!

Leafmite 09-26-2013 11:20 PM

They are both beautiful. I would love to get a Nelly Isler.

The Nelly Isler was actually #1 on my wish list until I spotted it at a show. The original was given to a friend who really wanted it so I had to buy a new one last February and start over. It is wonderfully fragrant, beautiful, and, as desertanimal has discovered, it blooms multiple times a year. I hope you find one. :)

I have been thinking of getting a nelly isler cause i see a lot of people that out of all their orchids, it is the all time favorite. I haven't seen one myself though. it's just interesting that a lot of people love it so much!

Here is a link to picture (Hausermann's online site). This is where I bought my replacement. I have given these as gifts to a few people and they love them and find them easy to keep alive and bloom. :)

We have a grower here on the island that has them on his website. It's definitely next on my list!

Leafmite 09-27-2013 04:21 PM

You will love it. :)

terracotta7 09-28-2013 11:46 AM

I love my Nelly Isler!!!! It has three spikes going up now and there are quite a few buds on each. This is my first year blooming it as I bought mine from Hausermanns last year as well. People here @ OB said it was a "must have" and who was I to argue.

Just remember...if I can grow it, anyone can!

Vanda lover 09-28-2013 02:17 PM

It looks like our local orchid grower is all out of them. This will have to remain on my wish list.
