Neofinetia falcata 'White Tara' x 'Crystal Palace AM/AOS'

These furan aren't as fancy or flash with variegation and mutations like most Fukiran, but this particular cross (I believe that one or both of it's parents are an Amami type) is excellent! The flower count is great, it's super vigorous, grows fast, and the flowers are huge compared to most others!

Here's mine with 9 flowers! (please pardon the poor image quality, my mom took this while I was away)

And here are two that live in the Greenhouse at Fishing Creek Orchids with 11 and 17 (on two spikes) flowers respectively.

Hey, Quay-kun, they look great: this cross has been on my wish list for the very reasons you mentioned.

And, all you need to show your mum is how to look at the histogram to help avoid blowing out the highlights. :)

Great growing! The flowers are beautiful. Mine has already finished. :(

WhiteRabbit 08-18-2013 08:02 PM

Lovely!

Thanks! The two at Fishing Creek are for sale (among many others of this cross, some are tinged with pink!)

Yeah she knows, I had the good camera gear when she was shooting this- she shot at mid day with a zoom lens or something crazy. I think she just decided that the leaves would be better exposed than the flowers. :blushing: Oh well!

Bringing this guy back up because, Quay, I want one of those!

Nice job! I have this cross too, got it years ago and although it is a reliable bloomer, I find it to be the slowest growing of all my Neo's. is yours the same way? I like how this one gets the slightest of pink tinges to it too, it's a real nice cross.

Is that so? All of the ones I have experience with grow much faster than any other Neofinetia!

Huh, well that's interesting. Maybe it's just mine then! My aunt got it from Cal Orchid many years ago, I've owned it for about 4 years now and it's only grown 2 fans in all this time.

Really beautiful!

Interesting, I hate to say it, but I think it might just be yours. I have one of these originally from Cal-Orchid and it has started two new fans since July! The ones on the black backdrop are the same cross but I don't know where they came from, they've been at FCO for a while.

It appears to be an individual plant thing. I have the same cross (see thread under incorrect Amami Island header). I have had that plant for close to 10 years, and it never set a new fan till I split it up into single fan plants last summer.

Considering the size of the flowers, I am still trying to breed with it though.
