Pot. Psycho Bride?
I just bought a mini catt labeled Pot. Psycho Bride 'NN'
But can't find anything about it online. Anyone got any leads? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 |
I don't see any orchid registered with that name on Orchid Wiz.

I sort of figured that would be the case. I did get it from Trader Joe's so I'm not surprised. I'll make a thread for it in the NOID section and hopefully get some sort of clue to the parentage. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 |
Looks like Marlows Orchids is selling it. Maybe shoot them an email: Orchids by Marlow - Cattleya Psycho Bride
|
The name is a bizarre! What did this plant do to deserve such name? lol
|
I would like to know the backstory to that name !
|
The breeder spent too much time with orchids and the neglected wife went psycho on him? lol
Ok, not funny. sorry. |

Oh, my, that is well funny! lol

Maybe this was the cross that broke their marriage...
It doesn't look that psycho lol. I'm contacting Marlows to see if they know anything. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 |
There's a Catt hybrid called (Ctt. or Slc.) Psychotica, and dozens of Catt hybrids with Bride in the name. I'd bet this is a cross of Psychotica with one of those Brides.
Why someone is using an unregistered name... with so many NoIDs being sold, and so few people who really take care to learn and use correct names, I think we're on the verge of losing meaningful hybrid names completely. Get used to it. |
Maybe its a new hybrid?
|
Maybe... I still haven't heard back from Marlows...
I don't even know who supplied the mini catt since Trader Joe's supplier doesn't even grow catts. But every two or three months one randomly appears. On a side note... I noticed today that its lightly fragrant. Smells kinda like lemon drops if you stick your nose in it. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 |
I got the Psycho Bride from Trader Joe's just yesterday and would be very much interested in what you find out from Marlows...
|
that is such a nice mini-catt. Our local Trader Joes never has anything as interesting....

Some things I even regret not purchasing. Phal shilleriana Den Kultana Fancy And a NOID phal that looked like hieroglyphica and made the whole store front of the store smell like fruit loops. All of those were when I had no money of course. But mainly I have to wade through seas of the same 30 phal, paph, and oncidium hybrids over and over. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 |
Got an email back.
He doesn't know lol. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 |

Pot. Psycho Bride = Blc Betty Fowler x C. White Bridal
Just got this at the Philadelphia Flower show. The scent is delightful. How is yours doing?
My tag says Psycho Bride = Blc Betty Fowler x C. White Bridal According to RHS website Rhyncattleanthe (Syn. Potinara ) Betty Fowler is C. Psyche x Rhyncattleanthe(Blc.) Orage Nuggett C. Psyche is C cinnabarina x C coccinea Can follow Orange Nuggett here Blc. Momilani Rainbow ̌zn} and White Bridal Genealogy of C. White Bridal |
Wow! That's exactly what I was searching for. Thank you very very much.
Mine is doing well. Lots of new roots, and some shiny new psuedobulbs. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk |
The general shape of the flower including the lip goes very well with the plant. Very attractive. Your baby is mysterious and beautiful with it being nearly noid and all. Good luck with your hunt for its origins.

It's my best grower too! The page before this someone linked its entire lineage! So no longer a NOID. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk |
Part of the problem is the reclassificaction of many species into different genera. It is registered by the RHS, but I had to look up genus name for both Betty Fowler & White Bridal to find it.
BLC Betty Fowler is now Rhyncattleanthe Betty Fowler C White Bridal is now Cattlianthe White Bridal and the resulting grex is: Rhyncattleanthe Psycho Bride It was registered by Newman's Nursery on March 7, 2014. Guess we know where the 'NN' clonal name comes from. And, the abbreviation is not the obvious RCG, but rather RTH (I have no idea how they came up with that one). |
Cool, if it was registered in Mar 2014 it looks like it was too new to have been registered yet when this thread started.
It's a really pretty one from the pictures higher up this thread. :) |
So now it's... Rth. Psycho Bride?
I'll be perfectly honest. When I posted this I figured I would never ever find the parentage. You guys are so great. I have quite a few more orchids from trader Joe's with 'nn'. Aha! Just registered! It all makes sense lol. I'm happy it finally has a name. Now.. if I could just get it to bloom. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk |
These changes are driving me nuts. Most of my collection is Paphs, so there I am OK. The second largest group is the Vandaceous family, mostly in smaller intergeneric hybrids.
Since all Ascocentrums & Neofinetia have been reclassified as VANDA for registration purposes, it means that: 1. Many have changed genus (mostly to straight 'Vanda'). 2. When I am thinking about buying a new plant, I need to look it up in OrchidWiz, to find out whether it is going to end up being 4" or 24" across. I am ready to Tar & Feather whoever decided to make these changes.:(( |
I've been wanting to get into vandaceous orchids but I'm finding it a little taxing for those exact reasons.
For now though I just use the tag name till someone corrects me. Then I change the tag. I just can't keep track of it all lol. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk |

just re-read this comment. Reminds me of the Catherine Tate Show. If you like British humour, this is a must see. Maybe you already have, using that expression. |
Rebloom on mine that I got last year on a whim...

Those look like pretty decent sized flowers relative to the size of the plant, nice. That's great too that you were able to get some ID help here. As I was reading in the beginning I was thinking maybe it's under a different genus name and sure enough! I've run into this problem myself with a Zygo hybrid; these names sure can be frustrating at times and I'm still in Orchid infancy!
|
Wow, I really like it! That shade of yellow combined with that purple...
What a bizarre name for a beautiful flower |

Ok, now I saw this orchid on Ebay. Mini cat with a cool name... oh ya I bought it.
|
Yeah, I bought mine on a whim too (that name appeals to the cynic in me).
My only concern is that my wife will notice that plant, and think that the name is a reflection on her. |

Well my Psycho Bride had it's first bloom for me. The plant looks like a Psycho due to cold damage in shipping last year but it's a trooper. I think next year will be even better. The blooms are small about 2 inches and scented. They smell like roses to me.

I almost got one of these three different times. The first time the pod parent was what convinced me to put it back on the shelf.

Really nice. Hopefully mine will bloom twice a year and have more blooms next time. Were yours scented?
