Coelogyne Janine Banks 'Snow White' HCC/AM/OSNSW
This is bought in bloom recently.
It looks like a giant version of my little Unchained Melody except it has orange coloration on the lip and the scent is much more bearable. quite strange, the scent tends to be stronger at night. hmmm. The flowers are slowly fading, but there is one more pointy structure, which might turn into a growth or a spike. excited to find out. Any one growing this variety??? |
 Gorgeous!
I just got my first Coelogyne (Unchained Melody) last weekend at an orchid show . I have been wanting to try one. |
I am growing this but that is all I am doing...no blooms yet. I have had it a little over a year soooo guess it may be awhile yet.
Hopefully when it does bloom it will be as nice as yours...Jean |
That is absolutely gorgeous!

Lovely plant!

I think it will definitely grow well for you!
Does the summer night stay warm or drop significantly? I guess depends on the area. I remember west coast being dry, day was very warm or hot and then it got really cool at night even in the summer. |
Yeah, it gets significantly cooler at night here
|
Then, it will do really well. My apartment gets really hot day and night in the summer and although everyone survived last year, a greater diurnal temperature difference will really help.
This year, I will use AC quite a bit. |

So, for now at least, it's getting some morning sun. |
The grower told me they give cattleya light.
I grew mine in almost direct sun last year with no harm. It needs a lot of water while growing. |

My pleasure!

what is the care and culture for this orchid? temp, water, light, humidity??
|
What a lovely plant, pot and setup. May have to try this one. I've had success with xyrekes, usitana, ochracea and roezlii. Would offer up some catts to the os mtg raffle table for Janine!

Wow, so beautiful, I love the white coelogynes, I have a cristata and its newest psuedobulbs have just finished maturing so hopefully it spikes soon 😄 It sits on east facing window receiving full morning sun. It gets very cold on the windowsill here in Colorado and it seems to love it there. I don't know what to do when summer comes along though? It will get very hot in the same area. I have only had it like 6 months.

Colorado has low humidity, so even in the summer, as long as you avoid strong light, the plant won't feel too hot. Also, the great thing about the mountain area is that the night temp drops a lot even in the summer, so that is really nice for the plant. ---------- Post added at 07:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:14 PM ---------- Quote:
Light- high light. The grower told me they grow this with cattleyas and cattleyas take a lot of light. So very bright light. Temperature- regular temperature like other generally grown orchids. not too hot, not too cold. When I'm comfortable in the apartment, my plants should be the same. That is an easy to remember general rule. This plant has tons of roots, kind of like oncidiums. Pot dries out fast and I dunk the whole thing a few times a week during summer. idea is to keep the plant drink up and then let it drain and dry out just slightly before watering again. They need a lot of water while developing new growths and those big fat pseudobulbs. |
Lovely coelogyne! I really love my Unchained Melody, but if I had my druthers...your plant is Gorgeous! or Both
|
How do you like the smell of your UM??
I gave mine away because I could not stand the smell. Lovely flowers for sure, though! :) |
