Beautiful! I love the coloring! I gave up my large oncidiums but have just gotten a third mini. I really found I couldn't live without them. Oncidiums are fantastic.

Beautiful orchid! What a great number of blooms. The color is really nice, too...the word that comes to my mind is "saturated" but I am not sure that is completely the right word. Anyway...thanks for sharing!

Leafmite...What would be an example of a mini oncidium? And where would you obtain one? I love my oncidiums as well, but they do get awfully big.

Leafmite 03-21-2013 02:02 PM

Oncidium Twinkle (onc. ornithorhynchum X oncidium cheiroporum) come in many colors and fragrances and oncidium cheiroporum (yellow), one of the parents also stays small. I bought them all quite cheaply at shows (Porters Orchids had the maroon one this year).

Thanks Leafmite! I have long admired the onc. ornithorhynchum, but have never seen it for sale at the vendors I buy from.

NYCorchidman 03-21-2013 04:21 PM

so that's the name. I see this a lot at flower shop. I like them too! :)

WhiteRabbit 03-21-2013 06:13 PM

Beautiful!

Leafmite 03-21-2013 07:45 PM

I hope you find one soon!

Bob from our forum works at a place that he says has the ornithorhynchum. I can't remember the vendor's name, though.

I pollinated 3 flowers - and 3 pods are growing on.
But, something interesting - and what I have never seen before. One of the spikes is branching ! I thought oncids do not branch - but see the photo evidence that they can ( 2nd photo, blurry ).

orchidsarefun 08-22-2013 10:57 AM

this is really a satisfying orchid to grow.
- 3 pods doing really well
- blooming again. The spike is so heavy that I have to support the pot. This one was attacked by japanese beetles, but I rescued it

- spike was broken, but it just branched and sent up more !

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/22/u2yquzu5.jpg

- and a very old spike that I didn't cut is now developing blooms - 3 pods in photo too

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/08/22/anydesan.jpg

great scent too ! only drawback is its size.....

NYCorchidman 08-22-2013 01:22 PM

I have a miniature oncidium that rebloom from the same spike. Yeah, I was like, wow~ is this phalaenopsis or something? lol

Ferns Daddy 08-22-2013 08:53 PM

Like the color a lots, I love Oncidiums I would need a very large green house to hold all the ones on my want list
