Hi New from North Texas

Hi, I found this website when I was looking for information on mini moth orchids. I currently have two, and I've managed to keep them alive for several months. I've grown a couple of moth orchids in the past but they both died. I didn't know much about orchids then, but now I'm learning more and more about orchids. I want to try growing cattleyas next.

Thank you Josh. I saw some cattleyas and vandas at Lowes so I think I'm going to buy 1 of each. I'm reading through the beginners guide on here and I've already learned so much.

Welcome to the OB. It's a great resource to learn about your orchids. Be sure to post pictures when you can.

Just google before you buy because it'll give a good idea of which orchids are easier to grow and so on.

Thanks Josh and Carrie. I think I'm leaning more towards the cattleyas.

Welcome North Texas:
I hope you find your visits to the Orchid Board as informative, fun and interesting as I have. You will find all sorts of Orchid enthusiasts here and any question you have will get some response.
This is a group of very friendly people who like to talk about their orc's and we can brag to each other a little without having them roll their eyes at us, as others are so prone to do ! My partner does this so much, I surprised he can see to read!
Have fun and ask anything!

Thanks Steve! I'm hoping my mini moth orchids bloom next year. They were rescue plants lol.

Thank you Betty. If I had room and experience, I would love to make an orchid tree.

Yours too????? My Paph Pinocchio just bloomed for the first time and I was sooooo excited! Showed my husband and he says, "it's kinda ugly."

Guess it's good to know I'm not alone.

And welcome, Cballen!

Thanks ElenaMarie. I hope I can get mine to bloom again next year. I googled the Paph Pinocchio and I think it has a beautiful and interesting flower.:D

Howdy from East Texas

When you feel the need to talk shop with people face to face about your orchids, there are two orchid societies near you -- the Greater North Texas Orchid Society, and the Forth Worth Orchid society. Look them up on the web, and visit with them a while!

Bobby Dillon, among others, (but I know him) would be one to visit with about cattleyas if you ever go to GNTOS. Lots of nice folks at both places.

Take care
may all your orchids bloom like crazy

Thank you so much Polka for the information. I didn't know there was an orchid society in this area. I'll definitely have to check it out.

Aww, thank you! :D I was thrilled it actually bloomed. Up until recently I've only grown phals so it was a big deal to me. Alas, my DH just doesn't have the chlorophyll addiction.

If you're looking for the info on how best to keep your orchid(s) happy and blooming you've come to the right place. Best of luck!

Cballen87 12-13-2012 07:11 AM

Thanks ElenaMarie :) I would be thrilled too. I'm still reading through the cattleya threads lol
