LOL... Welcome to the hoarders club!!!!! It's a wonderful club, and we have flowers!!!

cbuchman 11-11-2012 11:37 AM

It doesn't matter how much space you have. It's never enough!

WhiteRabbit 11-11-2012 05:26 PM

 oops .... but I've been there, but on a smaller scale ...
If it's just a night or two of very low temps, just put them back out afterwards, and bring them in the next time. I stick mine in the garage for the days when overnight lows approach freezing. Any that are warmer growers I keep inside...

Leafmite 11-11-2012 07:34 PM

Autumn has always been a nightmare for me, too. I now must get rid of plants or orchids to fit new ones or stick to very small/mini orchids and plants that can remain in small pots. :o

RJSquirrel 11-11-2012 08:25 PM

ya :hello you only know you got many orchids when you bring them all inside and go 'DAYUMMMM thats a lot of plants'

Its a sure sign your getting better though, might not need After Orchid therapy afterall ;)

trdyl 11-11-2012 10:10 PM

Yep! They do add up quick. Just wait until you have to start dividing them.....

isurus79 11-12-2012 09:52 AM

You could always sell some of that band equipment to make room for the orchids and free up some cash for orchid lights! Muhuhahahahaha!!

GardenTheater 11-13-2012 06:52 PM

I see space for more. Hahaha.

Orchidreamer 11-15-2012 09:16 PM

Same here. This is the first summer that I had more than 100 orchids. When the weather got cold, I had my orchids in trays like that too! They sat there in the garage for a few days because I simply felt too lazy to move them to their proper locations. I also had to cut down my collection by a fair amount. At least now all my orchids fit on the windowsills and under lights.

Yet I cannot control myself and I have another package of orchids coming tomorrow. I see you're in the same boat..except you have three packages, not one!

Wrebbitrocks 11-16-2012 02:54 AM

OMG and theres several that arent even potted up on that shelf. they're getting shriveled but ive been so busy at work. saturday is going to be busy for sure!!! on top of that ive been aqcuiring tons of backbulbs from people and they're so hard to keep track off. i think i will need to have a full scale greenhouse by at least next year

Leafmite 11-16-2012 12:45 PM

When I started buying the cute little seedling cattleyas, I didn't realize how large some of them get! There is that no ID vanda, the aerides, and my cute baby angraecum sesquipidale, too! I am now discovering the world of fragrant miniatures. :)

orchidsarefun 11-18-2012 11:06 AM

its great to see young-in-age people being hooked and showing that the hobby is for everyone.........not just the "better off" and young-at-heart. :D
I have had a lot of people say that it is an expensive hobby, but that is not true these days as prices are more reasonable.

cbuchman 11-18-2012 12:33 PM

More than half my orchids were purchased as seedlings or, at best, adolescents. There is such a thrill when they bloom for the first time, it makes the wait bearable. And as Type-A person, I have to have patience!

Leafmite 11-18-2012 04:10 PM

Seedlings are fun and rewarding. Some of my cattleya seedlings are getting close! The sesquipidale has a long, long time but I love watching it grow and put out those crazy roots. :)
I just didn't realize how large some of these orchids get. :|

Wrebbitrocks 11-19-2012 03:06 AM

im not too big on seedlings just yet because mine havent come to bloom and im scared they just sold me the wrong ones and i cant do anything about it 5+ years later lol

Franco24 11-19-2012 07:44 AM

You've got the orchid bug, and it's getting bad! I went through where you are currently at ... I have orchids in every possible space and still have them lining the floor! I've been telling myself "no more!" (With the exception of miniatures for in the terrarium) yet i just got 2 vanda coeruleas and I have a 3ft Dendrobium spectabile that will be here on Wednesday ...

This is not a hobby - it's an addiction.

Wrebbitrocks 11-19-2012 01:07 PM

lol i dont even know where it comes from. one moment im liking only all the main hybrids an stuff and rejecting anything thats not typical orchid shape. but lately ive been getting bulbophyllums, non-phal dendros, species, and all that special needs stuff. im gonna go bankrupt :/

It not like are that many different orchids to collect right? About 25k species and 25k hybrids, with different color variations of each.

Tindomul 11-11-2016 03:27 PM

If I ever have to relocated for work I don't know where I will stick all my work plants.
