I bought this Laelia purpurata hybrid on ebay four years ago. It languished on my windowsill until I put it outside in dappled sun in April, and now, finally I got a bloom off of it, along with much sturdier grows (previously the new psuedobulbs were thin, floppy, and now stocky and sturdy).

Not great form, but a beautiful lip with a delicate fragrance.

Wow live this
Can it grow outside year round you think?

Lovely!

That lip is just awesome! :yikes: Congrats.

TO Flexdc in Los Angeles - being half laelia purpurata, I am counting on it being able to survive a So Cal winter outdoors. I have other purpurata hybrids and a large L purpurata that seem to do well outdoors, so we shall see :)

That is pretty cool looking! Not your classic Catt look, but really attractive none the less.

Lovely. Really lovely.

Awesome!

Good job getting it to flower. The lip is so digbyana - the frill, fringe is very nice. Love to see future blooms, hopefully there will be better shape.

I agree, the digbyana lip really has come through in this one :)

Two years later, July 2014, much nicer display

Well here we are, two years later, and this quirky laelia hybrid has 2 more years under its belt growing outdoors, stronger pseudobulbs, and now 4 massive blooms, two on each spike. They've been blooming since July 14, I think they may last through the end of July but not much further. Definitely improving with age, and very fragrant.

They look great! Excellent growing!

there ya go :) 2 years of consistent culture goes a long way to getting good results. lots of people change the plants around so much when they dont respond and they dont even realise they set it back even further when they do. leave them alone and let them be still and comfy and they respond.

Fantastic!

I did a little research on this one, as far as I can tell it is registered as Rhyncholaeliocattleya, (Rlc) King Edward VII, Reg. in 1898 by a Mr. Veitch.

Warren.
