How am I supposed to choose only 13 of these? Is it ok to ask for some identification and names on some of these orchids? I've seen a bunch that I would like to put on my wishlist. If anyone can tell me the names of the following I'd be a very happy girl.... 7: What is that? I LOVE it. I think the color and shape is just so cool. 10: I've got a slight tendency to lean towards purple chids at the moment. I really like this one. 38: I don't know... I just immediately thought I WANT ONE when I saw this picture. What is it? 41: What an incredibly charming, cute little thing! Never seen this one before. Do you know what it is? 60: Yeah, I said I was into purple and bluish orchids, right? So...nuff said. 83: I waaaant one. This looks so amazing. 87: And I want one of these too. 91: Yeah...yeah...yeah...it's the blue purple phase that is talking again. Amazing pictures from everybody. May the prettiest orchids win! :D |

Sorry, but there are pics here that are out of focus, blurry, poorly composed and yet you rejected other people who presented better pics. I have seen this for several years.. I wont bother to try again and I am sure some other members wont either. This comp blows..

The main reasons I reject images is due to lack of enough resolution, if there's stuff in the photo like tags or a cat or TV or something, if the orientation if bad and cannot be used. Sometimes photo must be cropped so I have to make sure it's still useable after cropping. I don't reject photos because of composition. I sometimes allow photos that are composed badly or have short depth of field, I'm trusting you guys will weed those out (and you always do !) Hope nobody minds, but I've saved my 'first cut' to my desktop so I can play around sorting them into folders according to how much I like them. (Will not be using elsewhere without permission of course...). Only way I can really sort out 13! Unfortunately the last few decisions are proving very difficult...

Great job Marty. Nice selection of pictures to choose from. Especially liked a couple but won't name which ones. Can't wait to see the winning photos.
Finding the right photo to submit with resolution and light effects is very hard to do. I for one take lots of pictures because you never know what will turn out. |

I'm not sure to buy one, it depends if the shipping costs to Europe are more than the cost of the calendar... Last year I simply could not afford it, so i made my own calendar, with my own orchid pics. |
These are excellent photos - everyone is a winner!
I had a hard time choosing 13. I am curious though, are we allowed to pick less than 13? Unless I am missing something, the math doesn't add up. |
I'm thinking 13 would include the cover. I also think it's the photo that received the most votes :)

That's not very fair though, that the photo with the most votes gets the cover. No one looks at it! I would prefer for the cover to go to the 13th favorite pic.

It does seem unfair for the best to go on the cover but the cover is what sells the calendar. Mixed feelings on that one. lol

I keep looking over the pictures and would love to see more than just 13 on the calendar. So many of them are such great shots! Maybe we could have an "honorable mention" on the last page of the calendar with additional smaller 12 pictures. Just a thought :)

I agree that good pictures have been rejected in the past. I haven't submitted a picture for years.
I see that the picture number 1 is winning this year but seriously it's nowhere near the best quality picture or flowering.......I guess quality is not always the winner. |
Nice pictures for the calendar. It's fun watching the voting to see how everyone is doing.
For those who didn't make the cut or didn't win there is more to this than winning....it's sharing. Mine didn't win but I'll be submitting next time. Now where's that darn camera??? :scratchhead: Mine was #23 Ctsm Schmidtianum x Ctsm pileatum 'Green Gold". Can't wait till it blooms again. |
